Greta Gerwig has already settled with her protagonist Margot Robbie for the upcoming colourful and enlightening ride into Barbieland, but there are some more visions who can absolutely sell that Pink image too. Fans have been listing their choice of Kpop idols as Barbie for quite some time. On the other hand, a few other K-pop artists come on top as the spitting image of the doll-character as well.
It’s time that we listed down our dream Kpop casting for the movie also starring Ryan Gosling, Dua Lipa, Emma Mackey, Simu Liu and others, releasing on July 21, 2023. While many of these singers have already been chosen as the unofficial “Kpop Barbies”, I’ve also included some new names as I can see them fit into the role perfectly due to their vibrant and daring femininity that won’t settle down for less, and their acknowledgement of deserving the best in life.
Some Kpop Idols as Barbie Who Could Bring the Best of Both Worlds Together
Jeon Somi
It’s scary how well this vision blends in with Somi’s musical persona too. Especially in her Dumb Dumb music video, you can clearly see that not only are her entire aura and collection of sparkly outfits a spitting image of Barbie’s lifestyle, but even the font aesthetics in the video follow the Barbie train. Her blonde hair and pink-tastic identity have been expressed well through her music video, making a great case for her as the titular character in an alternate universe.
BLACKPINK Lisa and Rose
This girl K-pop quartet boasts of some unbelievably starry visuals, making all the members equal candidates for this post. However, BLACKPINK Rose and Lisa take the lead. The former undoubtedly oozes Barbie energy with her blonde hair, whereas Lisa has been called a doll lookalike by her fans on many occasions. Both of their confidence levels only further push for the idea as they could easily don the main character role.

MAMAMOO Solar
Solar may be a surprising addition to this list, but I couldn’t have missed her out, especially since her Honey music video was what inspired this feature’s idea. I had almost forgotten about this MV, but then I thankfully stumbled upon it again and I couldn’t stop gawking at her multifaceted radiant outfit choices. Whether it be primary colours on the palette or the monochrome theme, the MAMAMOO singer owned them all. I can totally see her as an outspoken Barbie who’s firm about what she wants in life, without compromising on her edgy fashion choices either.
TWICE Sana
Sana is yet another strong contender for this role, and has been running this race for a long time now. The TWICE singer’s elegant femininity has often caught her fans’ attention. Also known as the “only extrovert member of TWICE”, her bubbly cuteness and charm accords her with a loving and bright personality, much like what you’d expect from Barbie.
Former Girls’ Generation’s Jessica Jung
Jessica was the OG Kpop Barbie who landed this unofficial title even before it became an ongoing trend among fans of many girl groups in the industry. Even though her group is no longer active, the idea of her as the ever charming leading lady has been immortalised for good.
ITZY Yuna
She’s the self-proclaimed hit, who signed off as Barbie once. Her onstage aura and style adds on to the argument and helps her win over the case as well. Yuna’s bubbly and charming personality as the ‘maknae’ of the JYP Entertainment girl group has always been contagious. The solo special stage linked below (outside of her ITZY group participation) only proves that she can rule the camera as a soloist too. Her protagonist energy stands uncontested.
CLC Yeeun
She literally had a special stage titled Barbie. If that doesn’t speak for itself, then I don’t known what will. Her Barbie energy here speaks loud for itself. Her first pink outfit gives her the looks of a career driven woman. I wouldn’t be shocked if this Barbie were to be the editor of a high end fashion magazine.
aespa Karina
The SM Entertainment 4th generation girl group leader is an all-rounder who can’t be appreciated enough. She leads her team with a silently commanding poise, again, granting her the position of a main character.

Hopefully our dream casting will find its way to the Korean Barbie movie some day. Even if not, we’ve already accepted these K-pop artists as the leading women in our hearts.
