14 BTS Hairstyles That Introduced Us to a New World of Colour: Suga’s Mint Hair, Jungkook’s ‘Butter’ Purple Love and More

Taking a stylish turn to celebrate the South Korean musical septet’s 10th anniversary, we decided to take note of some of the most vibrant BTS hairstyles that spelled out major hair goals this past decade. From ruling airport fashion to leading an artistically aesthetic lifestyle – RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V aka Taehyung and Jungkook have been an inspiration to their fans on all fronts. And it’s no doubt that being one of the major precedents of the Hallyu wave, these 7 members together have pushed for many uplifting and positively inclusive ideologies with panache.

On the other end of that spectrum, since their debut in 2013, the boys have often transformed their looks and hairdos to breathe a new colourful air with each of their comebacks. Some of these have particularly climbed high on the popularity scale, helping each of them to go viral on the internet from time to time. They’ve sported countless challenging colours over the years and carried their looks with great confidence, leading us to curate this list of daunting hairstyles of BTS members that we’re still in love with.

BTS Hairstyles That Pushed Us to Experiment With Colour

Teal Taehyung

Kim Taehyung has ruled the bright hair colour trend since the dawn of BTS. Taking the group’s fans by storm, he’s made an example of his daring experiments, thereby immortalising some of his hairstyles like the Save Me red, DNA silver, Run green highlights, Boy With Luv orange and many more. His teal hair accorded with him the looks of a garden fairy, especially when he put on flower tiaras during fan-meetings. This angelic touch compliments his soft offstage personality, while simultaneously adding fire to his ferocious onstage persona.

Taehyung’s Two-Toned ‘Idol’ Hair

Even generally, the Idol era was a fulfilling promotion period for the band as each member was spotted donning daring hair colours at the time. From RM’s silver to Suga and Jungkook’s respective renditions of red, this era helped the septet gain quite a lot of traction not only due to the eponymous song’s fusion musical elements, but also the out of the box fashion statements made by the members. V aka Taehyung turned the conversation on its head when fans caught him with a two-toned hairdo in the music video, which reflected two sides to his artistic persona.

Jimin’s Pink ‘Spring Day’ Sakura Hair

With a song as emotional and profound as Spring Day, its music video painted an equally beautiful storyline by heavily implying its inspiration from the short story The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas. Its visuals were further complemented by the striking colours on each of the members’ head. Jimin’s soft sakura look went along with the snow-clad winter wonderland-like visions of the video, further pushing for his “mochi” nickname agenda.

Jimin’s ‘Butter’ Rainbow Hairdo

It’s a rainbow… It’s a peacock… It’s actually Jimin’s Butter hairstyle. Leaning towards a more playful ice cream vision to behold, this Jimin hairstyle is never not on my mind. As various shaded highlights of pink, purple and more intermeshed with his overall blond hair, this dazzling result is one for the books (just like the other Butter looks of the rest of the members).

Mint Yoongi

If there were to a President of all BTS hair colours, then it would be Suga’s Run mint hair. Oh, the mayhem this hairstyle caused in the fandom (and still does). Fans can nearly forget all other colours, but “Mint Yoongi” will never be one of them. As Lady Gaga would have it, this Suga hairstyle was “talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show-stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before”.

Suga’s ‘Mic Drop’ Platinum Bandana Hair

Suga really knows how to carry a striking colour and make it his own. Yet another memorable looks of his is one that was caught in the Mic Drop music video. Platinum is a rather common hair colour sported by many K-pop idols, but no one served looks as hard as the Daechwita singer upon accessorising the hairstyle with his black and red bandana.

J-hope’s Dynamite Undercut

J-hope’s ‘Permission to Dance’ Ombre Fusion

Once J-Hope took a step ahead in the world hair fashion, he never looked back again. Permission to Dance era again dealt out many heartstopping BTS hairstyles, but the Arson singer specifically went too hard in serving savoury looks. With an overall blond/ platinum hair base, each one of his concept photos for this single caught him in a different colour of highlighted hair tips. Through this look, he’s taught us all that sometime just dipping slightly into a colourful world can also work in one’s favour if you have the street-smart aura to carry it well.

RM’s ‘Not Today’ Purple Anime Twist

“Grapejoon” was not for the softhearted, because this particular RM hairstyle is to this date a one of the most unforgettable styles adopted by any member of the group. In the Not Today video especially, Kim Namjoon emerges as the anime protagonist lookalike we never expected to have met. His spikey purple hair along with the bandana he sported back then did something to BTS ARMYs’ hearts that can’t quite be described in words even today.

RM’s Lemon Undercut + Mullet

Jin’s ‘Blood Sweat and Tears’ Soft Pink Delicacy

Jin’s Self-Dyed Purple Masterpiece

There’s a reason why the fans of the group aggressively push for the “JinHit Entertainment” agenda, and that’s because no restrictions have ever held back Mr Worldwide Handsome. Endangering many hairstylists’ jobs, the eldest member of the group has often taken risks that many K-pop artists fret from. He’s cut his own bangs and posted the aftermath video for the fans to take notes from. The much-loved Jin hairstyle in question was also a result of his own doings, and the love ARMYs’ have felt for this hairdo is unlike any other.

Jungkook’s ‘Butter’ Purple Love

Jungkook in a purple man bun had his fans down bad. His Butter look was way too vibrant and startling (in the best possible) for the world to handle. And so, not many have emerged back from the shocks of this look yet.

Blueberry Jungkook

Following in the footsteps of his elder teammate Jin, Jungkook, too has self-dyed his hair before as caught on camera in one of the Bon Voyage episodes. It’s more than evident that scalp has never not known to live a dull day in the past few days. From trying on a perm that ascribed him a poodle-like persona, to mint, ash grey, red and more, the number of Jungkook hairstyles we’ve seen this past decade have only added to our understanding of how hairdo can completely make you look like a new person altogether. Similarly blueberry Jungkook commands the ability to look like the cutest rabbit offstage (as fans would call him) and the charming rockstar onstage.

BTS FESTA 2023 celebrations are still ongoing as this year’s calendar timeline has already teased some upcoming surprises to drop till June 17, 2023. Cheers to the BTS 10th anniversary!
