The episode started with Karan Johar welcoming the audience using Sara’s favourite line, “Namaste Darshako,” and started it with a trigger warning for the episode. He mentioned that he has invited two dynamic individuals on the show, describing one as a sophomore in her career and the other known for her uniquely astringent ways both on and off-camera. He pointed out that these two women may not have much in common in terms of upbringing, industry experiences, or struggles, but what is similar is their ‘ex-factor,’ which means they both go bonkers when left totally unsupervised.
Karan inquired about Ananya’s well-being, prompting her to share her adept handling of both day and night. She expressed, “Honestly, I feel I manage both aspects quite effectively.” At this point, Karan playfully teased, “Aren’t you a bit gumrah by love?” (addressing the Aditya Roy Kapur movie), she responded, offering insight into the profound nature of her emotions, saying, “You know, that’s how Aashiqui (love) unfolds.” This revelation provided a glimpse into the depth of her current sentiments.

When KJo asked Sara Ali Khan how she has been enjoying ‘cricket’, the actress started talking about the IPL final match she went to watch this year. Then the filmmaker stopped her midway and said that this was not the actual cricket thing he wanted to hear. Coming to the point, Karan said that there are rumours about her dating cricketer Shubman Gill, to which Sara said, ‘Oh my god. You have got the wrong Sara, guys. Sara ka sara duniya galat Sara ke peeche padha hai,’ indicating the sign towards Sara Tendulkar and clarified that she never dated Shubman Gill and they have just been friends.
‘Who is Orry?’ is one of the most asked questions on the internet these days. On social media, he is everywhere, but no one actually knows what he does and why he is seen with almost every celebrity. Karan also asked the same question to Sara and Ananya, as they have been seen posting pictures with Orry. However, the ladies didn’t disclose much about him and said, ‘He is a man of many things; he is a really funny person.’
Karan then asked Ananya about the trolls she got after her statement on struggle went viral and how she addressed it. She responded that she had made peace with it, as she received so much love from kids with her first movie. But now, she wanted people to respect her as an actor, and she wanted to improve in her work and professional life so that people could love her, understand her, and take her seriously.

Even KJo asked Sara about how she started her career with two massive hits, Kedarnath and Simmba, and then she had a setback with Love Aaj Kal 2. In response, she said that she knows that some movies will be good and some will be bad; it’s a part of the industry. However, what the failure of the movie did was make her start to doubt herself, thinking that she might not be a good actor.
Karan asked them directly about Kartik Aaryan and whether it is easy to be friendly with each other considering they once dated the same guy. Sara decided to answer the question but talked about dating and breakups in general by saying that she can’t say yes, it is easy because then it comes across as a little more frivolous than it is. When you are involved with anybody, whether it’s friends, professionally, or romantically, especially if I am, I get involved and invested. So it does affect them. But ultimately, they have to rise beyond that.

Karan also talked about the friendship issue that he had with Kareena Kapoor and Kajol. He mentioned that in 2003, for a year and a half, they didn’t talk. The reason was a film, specifically Kal Ho Naa Ho. Both of them didn’t communicate until the director’s father was diagnosed with cancer, which prompted Bebo to call him finally. “When he passed away, she was in Bangkok, and we still hadn’t reconciled. The moment she landed from her shoot, she came home. We spent all night just chatting. We went back to where we were. When we fought, I said I was never going to speak with her again.”
On the other hand, Karan shared that he thought after the feud with Kajol, their bond would not be the same anymore. However, both of them coincidentally reconnected. The director recalled messaging Kajol when his babies were born and sent her pictures of Yash and Roohi. He added, “I said, ‘You don’t need to reply, but these are what my children look like – Yash and Roohi.’ She messaged back and said, ‘I am just full of love right now.’ A month later, she said, ‘It’s my birthday, you don’t have to come,’ but he went. They hugged and cried, and it was done.

Sara is one of those actresses who you won’t see in designer clothes unless it’s for some event. Karan Johar, someone who loves designer clothes, addressed this topic in which she answered that she doesn’t do this to look relatable but rather because she is aware that people are following her on Instagram and seeing what she is doing. It’s not that she doesn’t have designer bags to choose from, but it’s her choice not to use them. She also mentioned that she finds it ridiculous when people go to get their hair blow-dried just before heading to the airport.

Rapid Fire Round
The round was quite interesting as it started with the question about her dating Aditya Roy Kapur, to which she answered that she is feeling very “Ananya Coy Kapur,” which was a great way of addressing the rumours. Then KJo asked Ananya Panday about the most challenging aspect of being in a relationship with another actor. Ananya mentioned that privacy becomes a significant challenge in such relationships. She expressed the difficulty of navigating a relationship with someone while having to deal with constant speculation and numerous conversations that often “get in the way.”
Karan asked Sara about who she thinks makes better boyfriends – actors, cricketers, or businessmen. She answered that in an ideal scenario, she values the looks of an actor, the stamina of a cricketer, and the financial stability of a businessman. When asked about one thing that Ananya has, and she doesn’t, she mentioned a “Night Manager”, hinting at Aditya Roy Kapur. When asked one thing that she has, and Ananya doesn’t, she answered a degree.
The audience votes revealed that Sara Ali Khan won the round with 77% of the votes, while Ananya received 23%. When Ananya tried to touch the hamper playfully, Sara jokingly said, ‘If you touch my hamper, I’ll touch yours,’ alluding to Ananya’s boyfriend, with whom Sara is working in her next movie, Metro In Dino.
Koffee With Karan Season 8 Episode 3: Final Thoughts
This episode was interesting, as it felt like Karan was back again. In the previous two episodes, it seemed more focused on family and mental health. This episode, however, delved back into the life of a celebrity and their dating experiences. It did clear up some rumours and also provided a lot of laughs with a few of their statements. You will surely see the friendship between them, as they didn’t try to be formal, but rather felt like siblings.
The discussion about Aditya Roy Kapur was a bit excessive, and after a while, it felt unnecessary, especially since she had already confirmed her relationship. Nevertheless, it was nice to see them become new besties, and I hope their friendship stays like this.
