Killers of the Flower Moon trailer marks the maestro, Martin Scorsese’s directorial comeback and the newly released videos boasts of an ensemble cast including the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons, Brendan Fraser, Tantoo Cardinal, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins, and Jillian Dion. Based on a haunting real-life murder mystery, the dark visuals of the trailer released on May 18, 2023, hark upon the impending doom.
Set in the 1920s Oklahoma, the film is based on David Grann’s best-selling book Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI. It’s story revolves around the serial killings centred around the oil-wealthy Osage Nation. The brutality and goriness of these infamous crimes made them a much-feared phenomenon that came to be known as the Reign of Terror. Scorsese co-wrote the epic western crime drama film’s screenplay with Eric Roth.
Alongside, Apple Studios, the film was produced under the banner of Imperative Entertainment, Sikelia Productions and Appian Way. Scorsese, Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas and Daniel Lupi step in as the producers, while DiCaprio, Rick Yorn, Adam Somner, Marianne Bower, Lisa Frechette, John Atwood, Shea Kammer and Niels Juul serve as the executive producers.
DiCaprio and De Niro will be working together for the first time in a feature film since their collaboration on the 1993 drama film This Boy’s Life, directed by Michael Caton-Jones. Moreover, they’ve been well established as Scorsese’s muses as Robert De Niro has previously worked with the director in Taxi Driver, Cape Fear, Raging Bull and more. While DiCaprio receded Oscar nominations for his working in Scorsese’s films, The Aviator and The Wolf of Wall Street. With the upcoming movie in sight, now the three legendary artists have finally worked on their first feature together as well.

The trailer of the Academy award-winning filmmaker’s new movie constantly reiterates the image of “wolves” in order to develop on the idea how “greed is an animal that hungers for blood”. Gunshots, blood splashes, ambiguous and intense sequences reminding us of the inevitable end, street lynchings, fire, conspiracies brewing in the dark and more such visuals escalate the tragic intensity of the themes suggested in the trailer, while DiCaprio’s narration plays out in the background.
DiCaprio plays the role of Ernest Burkhart in the film, who was the nephew of a prominent Osage community member, played by De Niro. On the other Lily Gladstone will be portraying the character of Mollie Burkhart, i.e. an indigenous woman who eventually married Buckhart. Leonard’s character gets pulled into the Osage Nation murders, and the investigation is led by the FBI, with J. Edgar Hoover taking charge alongside former Texas Ranger Tom White, played by Jesse Plemons.

Killer of the Flower Moon releases in theatres on October 6, 2023. However, way before that, it’s also set to have its world premiere at the 76th Cannes Film Festival on May 20, 2023. With Apple Studios as one of the producing companies behind the title, it’s inevitable that it’ll receive its OTT premiere on the Apple TV+ in the future as well.
