Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Episode 3 Recap

The episode opens with the key players assembling to speak with Tengen about a matter of grave importance. Without any buildup, the narrative dives straight into Kenjaku’s true objective. His plan revolves around forcibly evolving humanity across Japan by merging all humans with Tengen. While such an outcome was once unachievable, the death of the Star Plasma Vessel triggered Tengen’s evolution, turning this horrifying idea into a real and imminent threat.

The first half is dense with crucial exposition, particularly explaining why Tengen now requires constant protection. Kenjaku’s scheme carries the potential for widespread devastation, making Tengen’s safety the highest priority. One of the most striking revelations from this discussion is that Toji’s past interference unintentionally laid the foundation for many of the present-day disasters unfolding in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Episode 4 Review

This episode begins with the much-awaited return of Maki to the Zenin clan. She comes back with the intention and conviction that she will get her hands on the cursed tools, but almost everyone in the clan stands in her way, especially Naoya. The first interaction that we see between Maki and another character is Naoya, and this segment was very disturbing because we realise how much he bullied her when they were young. He does not take her seriously, and when she goes to get the curse tools on the basis that Megumi, the current head of the clan, is backing her, the situation only worsens.

We learn that Naoya had already been planning for a situation like this with Jinichi, Toji’s brother. They plan to execute Maki, Mai, and Megumi with the false claim that they are rebels who plotted to free Satoru Gojo. Following this, we see how they intended to ambush Maki from the very beginning as they anticipated she would come for the cursed tools. Thus, while entering the chamber where Maki thought she would get the curse tools, she faces off against her own father, who wishes to execute his daughters because he could not become the clan head thanks to them.

This is how the destruction of the Zenin clan begins, as they fail to realise what they have done by overlooking talents like Maki and Toji. This episode was definitely one of the best of this season, and the fight that took place was absolutely breathtaking. Every scene was thematically and cinematically rich with ample symbolism, showcasing the inner turmoil of Maki and her despair after losing something precious.
Verdict

Well, I’ll be damned, that was pure peak; Jujutsu Kaisen is operating at its absolute best right now. Watching Maki evolve from a capable sorcerer into a force of pure destruction was nothing short of incredible. The series has never been gentle with its audience, and this episode proves it once again. It delivers relentless impact after impact without ever slowing down to let viewers catch their breath.
The animation was also straight cinema, where we got ample scenes that were heavily influenced by Kill Bill. I really just want fans to feast their eyes on this one.
