Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 17 Ending Explained

In the new episode, after getting spontaneously hit by the sorcerer Haruta, Megumi summons one of the most fierce shikigami of the Ten Shadows Technique called Mahogara. The entity is known to be the most powerful of them all and no user has been able to tame it. It is an asset very precious to the Zenin clan. Although Megumi cannot possess it, he summoned it in a last attempt to down his enemy before passing away.

However, Sukuna reaches the scene and decides to take down the shikigami himself because if no one is able to defeat it, Megumi will end up dying. Sukuna considers Megumi to be useful in his attempt to unleash his original form which is why he protects him from any harm.

What is Mahoraga?

Also known as the Divine General, the entity is built muscular, towering over everyone around it. A wheel with eight hands hovers above his head which is the most important aspect of his abilities. The Divine General possesses the ability to adapt to any and all phenomena. If it is injured by a particular attack, the eight-handled wheel will turn, allowing it to adapt. If its adversary uses that same technique again, Mahoraga will counter it.

In simple terms, the shikigami can adjust to anything that happens. If it gets hurt by a certain attack, it can adapt and defend against that attack if it happens again. It also works the other way around: if it’s attacking, it can adjust its strategy to break through the defences of its opponent.

Sukuna vs Mahoraga, who won the fight?

Mahoraga could adapt to Sukuna’s moves and fight back. The King of Curses acknowledged the shikigami’s immense powers. At first, Sukuna was able to avoid its attacks, and his Dismantle move caused a lot of damage. However, once it adapted, it used cursed energy to send Sukuna crashing through buildings. It even managed to see and deflect Dismantle when Sukuna tried to use it again.

The entity can adapt not only to specific moves but also to similar techniques. Sukuna thought the shikigami could adjust to slashing attacks in general after facing Dismantle. To overcome its quick healing, it needed to be beaten by a different attack than what hurt it before. Sukuna won the battle by using the Malevolent Shrine to keep slashing it and then finishing it off with a powerful flaming arrow that burned the Divine General completely.
