Jinny’s Kitchen Season 2 Episode 8 Review
The episode continues from where Yu-mi’s dinner service leaves off, marking an exclusive invitation day at Jinny’s Kitchen. Only select guests, closely connected to the restaurant, arrive to enjoy the culinary delights. Among the 3 to 4 groups of customers, we see familiar faces, from a nearby ramen shop owner to the person responsible for Jinny’s Kitchen’s electrical work. A particularly heartwarming moment unfolds when Elizabeth, a local interpreter who once lived in Korea, arrives with her family.
Their order of beer and soju immediately hints to Seo-joon that they plan to make Somaek, the beloved Korean tradition of mixing the two drinks. When Woo-shik inquires if anyone in the group is Korean, Elizabeth proudly shares her connection to Korea. Watching the group indulge in this Korean tradition brings smiles to the staff’s faces, reinforcing the cultural exchange that the restaurant embodies. In the kitchen, Yu-mi works with calm precision, wrapping up each dish with remarkable speed, including her newly introduced menu item, bibim-guksu. She serves the dishes so quickly that Seo-joon even playfully suggests she slow down.

As the night winds down successfully, the team takes a moment to relax and enjoy the famous hot dog from a 73-year-old restaurant in Iceland, a well-deserved treat after their hard work. Preparations begin for the next day, with Woo-shik taking charge as the chef. He decides to introduce a new dish to the menu, Ttukbaegi Bulgogi, a flavorful combination of beef and glass noodles. After marinating the sauce and prepping the ingredients, the team heads home for a good night’s rest, ready to face the next day.
At 7 am, the team returns to the kitchen, gearing up for the lunch service. Each member efficiently handles their assigned tasks—cutting vegetables, frying fritters, boiling meat—while Woo-shik, ever the entertainer, keeps the atmosphere light with his jokes, making even the BTS staff laugh. Seo-jin and Yu-mi thoughtfully buy coffee for their teammates, before they note down the names of customers on the waiting list.

As the restaurant quickly fills up, Woo-shik’s preparation pays off; he has dishes 80% ready even before orders come in, allowing him to stay ahead and manage the kitchen smoothly. Seo-joon and Seo-jin serve customers with warmth, engaging in friendly conversations that keep the restaurant’s atmosphere lively. When an American-born Korean arrives with his friends, Seo-joon strikes up a conversation and compliments his Korean, creating a welcoming environment.
Towards the end of the service, Woo-shik goes the extra mile by personally meeting with the American-Korean guest, offering him some Korean-made Kimchi and Gochujang. This thoughtful gesture, especially since the guest hasn’t had Korean food in years due to living in Iceland, deeply touches him. In return, he thanks the entire team and even covers the meal for his entire group. The episode wraps up with a teaser for the upcoming dinner service, where Woo-shik continues to manage the kitchen with patience despite the increasing busyness.
This episode beautifully showcases the harmonious blend of cultural exchange, teamwork, and the warmth of genuine hospitality. The moments shared between the staff and their guests, particularly with Elizabeth and the American-born Korean, highlight the restaurant’s role as a bridge between cultures. The interaction with the guests not only provides a glimpse into the global appeal of Korean cuisine but also reinforces the show’s underlying theme of connection through food.

On the operational side, the episode effectively captures the smooth and efficient teamwork within the kitchen. Yu-mi’s calm demeanor and rapid service, alongside Woo-shik’s organized approach and light-hearted leadership, demonstrate the team’s growth and synergy. The episode balances the intensity of running a restaurant with moments of light humor and camaraderie, offering viewers both entertainment and an appreciation for the hard work that goes into creating a successful dining experience. The anticipation for Woo-shik’s upcoming dinner service leaves viewers eager for more, making this episode a well-rounded and engaging addition to the series.
