Jimmy Kimmel shows no signs of slowing down in his criticism of President Donald Trump and his supporters. The comedian, whose show was canceled over jokes offensive to the MAGA crowd, returned to the air and has since ramped up political comedy—the same material that nearly ended his run.
In his latest monologue, Kimmel posed a pointed question to Trump supporters: Could they imagine the former President awarding himself the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest military honor? Trump’s well-known affinity for medals makes the idea unsurprising for him. But the irony? He never served in the military.
“Of course you can imagine it,” Kimmel quipped. “He accepted the Nobel Prize as a gift.”
Last year, Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado gave Trump her Nobel Peace Prize after he repeatedly claimed he deserved one for averting eight wars during his presidency. The claim’s legitimacy is debatable, and it wasn’t an official Nobel award.
The Medal of Honor scenario differs: Trump has never fought in a war. Kimmel highlighted the absurdity, asking: “What if he does it? What if he puts that around his own neck? Would that finally wake up these zombies who still worship him?”
Kimmel added that Trump might feel he earned it because his plane landed on an unlit runway in Iraq during his first term. “If that’s all it takes, anyone who’s ever flown into Newark deserves the Medal of Honor.”
Kimmel’s bit stemmed from a Wall Street Journal report that Trump has considered awarding himself the honor amid rising U.S.-Iran tensions.
Under an X post sharing the report, users piled on: “Clown to clown self-award, clown to clown self-congratulation.” Another: “You can’t help but feel pity for Trump—he can’t help being insane.” A third: “Least surprising thing as of late.”
Trump’s medal obsession is legendary, but Kimmel argues even the MAGA crowd might balk at him claiming the Medal of Honor without setting foot on a battlefield.
