Moving forward in the script, she decides to omit the soldiers’ lines altogether. When Jeongnyeon inquires about this decision, she’s met with a dismissive response from So-bok, leaving her disheartened. Later, Chorok makes a snide comment about how Jeongnyeon should have auditioned for a bigger role instead of being just a soldier, unknowingly triggering Jeongnyeon’s determination. Motivated to prove herself, Jeongnyeon resolves to perform her soldier role with excellence, using it as a chance to delve deeper into the art of Gukgeuk.

In the meantime, Yeong-seo continues to rehearse her lines but seems reluctant to collaborate with Jooran, cutting her off whenever she tries to ask for more practice time. However, when Yeong-seo later finds herself struggling with the nuances of her character, she recalls Jeongnyeon’s encouraging words, which unexpectedly fuel her motivation. That same night, she overhears Jooran practicing alone, passionately exploring her own character’s depth and reflecting on her desire to portray “Precious” in her own way.

Inspired by Jooran’s dedication, Yeong-seo decides to finally accept her offer to rehearse together, and the two begin working closely, growing closer through their shared passion for acting. When Jooran shares the news of their teamwork with Jeongnyeon, Jeongnyeon feels a mix of happiness and concern, pleased for Jooran’s progress but wary that her friend might feel pressured by Yeong-seo’s intensity.

True to form, Do-aeng provides Jeongnyeon with insightful advice, urging her to find her unique version of the character. Inspired, Jeongnyeon decides to fully embody the role by dressing up as a boy and immersing herself in the world of soldiers.

She spends time observing soldiers at a nearby camp, listening to their stories and gaining insight into their struggles. This experience allows her to connect with the hardships and resilience of soldiers, deepening her understanding of the character’s inner turmoil and perspective. Later that night, Jeongnyeon sees the Maeran accountant yelling at a group of young fangirls who had come to see the troupe members. Stepping in, Jeongnyeon defends the girls, earning their admiration. Touched by her kindness, the fangirls promise to support her at the upcoming performance, giving Jeongnyeon a newfound confidence boost. When Jeongnyeon excitedly goes to share the news with Jooran, she finds her practicing with Yeong-seo.

Their growth as performers leaves Jeongnyeon in awe and makes her wonder if she might have missed an opportunity by choosing a minor role.

As the day of the play arrives, Jeongnyeon is mesmerized by the captivating performances of Hye-rang and Ok-kyeong, who bring their characters to life with finesse. However, it’s the powerful presence of Yeong-seo and Jooran on stage that weighs heavily on Jeongnyeon’s mind. Watching the audience’s enthusiasm and admiration for her friends’ portrayals fills her with a sense of inadequacy and regret over her decision to take on a smaller role.

She feels as though her own potential is overshadowed by the scale of her part, unable to showcase the same depth of talent her friends have demonstrated. Even Yeong-seo’s mother, who’s in the audience, appears pleasantly surprised by her daughter’s stellar performance, as the crowd’s excitement reaches a crescendo.

When it’s finally Jeongnyeon’s turn to perform as the soldier, her eagerness to prove herself backfires as she overacts, drawing disapproval from So-bok, who chastises her for overshadowing the lead actors with her exaggerated delivery. She cautions Jeongnyeon against seeking the spotlight as an extra, emphasizing the importance of supporting the main characters. However, in a later scene, as Jeongnyeon recalls her encounters with real soldiers and her father’s death, she channels her emotions into an unscripted lament for the soldiers.
