Netflix has released the official trailer for Into the Deep, a true crime documentary by filmmaker Emma Sullivan, which will surely give you the chills. Premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, the documentary is based on the murder of Swedish Journalist Kim Wall, by former Danish entrepreneur and engineer Peter Madsen.
The synopsis explains that the filmmaker had a different purpose for making the documentary, but the twisted event led her to embark on a disturbing ride. Emma Sullivan also serves as the producer, along with Mette Heide, Rosalyn Walker, and executive producer James Marsh.
Into the Deep Trailer Breakdown
The one-minute fifty-eight-second clip starts with the introduction of Peter Madsen, a Danish celebrity cum engineer, who made three submarines for deep sea exploration. In a voiceover, the director explains the reason behind making the documentary and covers the insights into Peter’s entrepreneurial journey.

His interns appear on the screen and share their enthusiastic reason behind joining the venture. Flashbacks of Peter’s lecture and his accomplishment set the tone of the trailer and leave us totally unprepared for what’s coming next. A sudden change of events takes place when Peter Madsen disappears with his submarine, along with Swedish Journalist Kim Wall on board. This makes everyone worried about Peter until he makes a surprising comeback. The only problem is, that he came out alone.
No one had the slightest clue, as to what might have transpired in the submarine. Everyone comes with their theories until the true personality of Peter Madsen is revealed. One of his friends confesses, that the man who came out from the submarine that day, was someone completely different.
The hints throughout the trailer start making sense. Followed by the real-life interviews of Peter Madsen, who provides unconvincing reasoning, and presents his side of the story. Although, much of it looks fabricated as if trying to hide the disturbing truth of it all.
The shockwave appears when the body of Journalist Kim Wall is retrieved. All close companions and interns, start to question the deeds, and the reason behind the horrific tragedy. Ultimately, a layer of suspicion surrounds Peter and exposes his true side. Whereas, filmmaker Emma Sullivan’s documentary takes a different road of evidence.
She also points out the lack of technicality, which might end up in his favor, and save him from the trial. However, the deep-rooted investigation brings out the truth of the case and leaves no stone unturned. The trailer ends with a series of montages related to the case, with a combination of a time-ticking sound, that gives real goosebumps. Conclusively, the trailer finishes, and the feeling of “What Really Happened?” lingers.
