Instant Dream Home Review: Complete House Transformation in Less Than a Day

Instant Dream Home is a Lifestyle, home-makeover reality series which is released by Netflix on 10 August 2022. Hosted by Orange is the New Black star Danielle Brooks, who is tagged as a team leader on the show. It is produced by Tom Forman, George Verschoor and directed by Anthony B Sacco.

The other cast members who do all the planning and designing include Adair Curtis, Erik Curtis, Nick Cutsumpas and Paige Mobley. There are 8 episodes in the series with a runtime of about 41-47 minutes. In this home renovation series, deserving families get the surprise of their lives when their dilapidated house is transformed in just a few hours.

Netflix’s synopsis of the series reads:

A team of rapid-fire renovators takes big risks and makes painstaking plans to transform families’ homes from top to bottom in just 12 hours.

-Instant Dream Home Review Does Not Contain Any Spoilers-

The show is said to be part home renovation show and part heist movie! A group of families are in for the surprise of their lives, with their homes about to be totally transformed and radically improved from ho-hum to OMG, in just one day! Well, the description sounds pretty fancy and somewhat it is.

The premise of the show is simple, family or friends nominate someone to the show for a home renovation. Usually, the nominated person is someone who is kind and caring about everyone, and who gives back to society without expecting anything in return. From these entries, the show selects the one who really deserves to get the complete home transformation.

What makes the show interesting is that they only have 12 hours, more or less, to renovate every part of the house. The friend and family take the homeowner away for the day so that the building team can get into the house and change the outlook by the time they return in the evening.

Still from Instant Dream Home

But the work on the house actually starts like 3 months ago, where they design and prepare all the things beforehand so that on the day of action, they just need to get on location and put things in place. They come prepared with a complete kitchen wall or a whole bathroom if needed.

The anxiety and the adrenaline rush to get things done on time is exciting to watch and the big surprise reveal at the end is definitely emotional and feels good to watch. However, I don’t really agree with the choices that the design team made in some houses. Like the one house with blue walls on the outside and a red door, didn’t need to be repainted a darker colour.

They could have simply rearranged the furniture, maybe some changes in the interiors and they would be done. Also, after watching the whole series, it felt like they just want to show off their creativity and how lavish they can make the house by installing endless things, instead of making the existing house better. Or working with things that are already there.

Still from Instant Dream Home

Which makes me question, how durable are these installations even. I mean I have seen house renovations take months to be fully furnished and they are making it happen in a day? Have also heard about the same kind of show, which renovated the homes of some kind souls but later, it turned out that they were poorly built because of the time constraint and things soon began falling apart.

I don’t want to be the person that pinpoints mistakes in everything but I wish these shows also showed some behind scenes and how they make it all happen. Where does the money come from for all this expensive renovation? Imagine the homeowners getting a hefty bill for all the construction after the shoot.

Summing Up: Instant Dream Home

It is needless to say that the show will be certainly popular like many other in the same genre. There’s some charming factor about these shows where we love to see the transformations, whether it be a person or a house. The joy that the people get is heartwarming to watch and makes you believe that goodness is still out there.

Still from Instant Dream Home

Every episode gets into the action, right from the start, without wasting time on long introductions and monologues. However, you will feel anxious whenever the host Danielle is assigned something to do, as it ends up causing more trouble (mostly). The show might give you some ideas for your own house and how to decorate/design it.

  1. Danielle brings so much fun to the show, and I’m so glad she doesn’t feel the need to change her bubbly personality to satisfy people. ????

  2. Danielle is the best. Full of energy, not everyone would appreciate her personality, and thats ok, nit everyone has to like you. Keep doing you Danielle!

  3. Love the show but Danielle just over does it. If I were the crew I would have banned from the set until it was finished. She adds nothing to the progress

  4. Am I able to nominate Ourselves – as a surprise for my Husband and our large Family?
We’re 77 years old, in a 1970s house in the Sierras of Central California, on SS fixed incomes. Our home is all we have, and it’s open for our Family of nine ‘kids’ and 25 grandkids for vacations with us year round. We need it to be painted, insulated against our harsh weathers, re-floored/rugged; and kitchen/BR updated…nothings been done since the 70s, really!. You’d make a Huge and Loving Family super-happy! We’ve given for our entire lives, for Family and Community,, and would love to give some more, in a more ‘together’ and sustainable home!

  5. This show is awesome. Just wondering how can I nominate someone who is in desperate need of home repair. Everyone is amazing from the outside work to them inside. Two thumbs up for this new show.

  6. I was loving this show until the family with nine kids. REally? having nine children that you can’t afford to support is a choice. Nobody needs to have them and why give them a free home makeover? I don’t get it. I quit watching at that one.

  7. How can we nominate ourselves? I love in a 1970’s obile home in Central South Florida. I live on disability/SS and my home needs a bit of a fix up.

  8. This show is amazing. Some of the stories and Reno’s have literally made me cry. Danielle is amazing. I love her energy, bubbly personality and how she livens the show.

  9. I would like to nominate my daughter she loves to cook in her kitchen she need a island she need new doors on a house she need her living room renovated and also her dining room in her bedroom and her bedroom she had three kids was it a twin and 120 Jo and her husband but they just got the house and they don’t have the money for the renovation also her front porch need to be fixed.

  10. How do I nominate my moms house such a working mom her house falling apart and my teenager going through depression want to go his led gaming rook

  11. I’m a 61 year old disabled man and I just paid my house off here in Illinois but my house needs some work does that mean they’re going to come and fix my house if I let them film my house on their show I’ll believe it when I see it nobody gives you anything for free my house was built in 1860 used to be a church and I love the house and everything but it needs a new roof badly it leaks and I’m doing the best I can to fix it but I don’t have much money and I can’t really get around much need new flooring and paint on the wall and some outside TLC I think it’d be a good challenge for them let’s see if they’re up for the challenge if they’re real I don’t know I hope so God willing somebody’s going to help me long as I don’t have to pay it back cuz I can’t afford anything oh and my furnace needs to be updated can you do it we’ll see

  12. The show is very engaging, but the host, Danielle, is just too much!!! She drives me crazy with all her screaming. You can be fun and energetic without being so over the top. It takes away from the seriousness of the show. Also, she has no skills at all that contributes to the progress of the project…how is she a project manager??? If she wants to keep the staff on a time line, she could make calls when shipments are late or something like that…just do something instead of screaming her lungs outall the time!

    • Danielle is amazing. She brings fun and laughter and positivity to all the hundreds of ppl working. She helps to keep everyone’s stress get washed away. Smiles and laughter are contagious. One negative person or mood can spread like wildfire through everyone. Danielle is a rock and rockstar!!

  13. I just love your show! The people that do the work are awesome! I would love my mom and brother to have their home done.

  14. How to you qualify, fixing to divorce but before my husband tore our home up and and I have wires hanging out with 3 kids, I am financially living check to check, I put my boys together just to rent a room and for being a parent and trying to stay in my recovery with all of this, is it horrible I’d nominated myself.

  15. Love, love, love the show. Got some qualms though – I also question the durability of the installs. It also seems like most of the families are church-going, which makes me think that the casting directors were only choosing families like that. Also, ALL of the girls’ bedrooms were painted pink and purple, while the boys’ rooms were blues, yellows, reds, etc. Is it not 2022? Pink for girls ans blue for boys, really? I’m a bit disappointed.

  16. Before you can get started I know people are gonna judge my comment and and it seems to be that they pick families based on their social Justice Warrior issues.. Watching the 1st episode it’s amazing what these people do it really is gorillaz but that 1st family you got the mom and the daughter that are all about black lives matter and all the other stuff which we know BOM is one of the biggest scams in the world they took money from innocent people who wanted to make it better in their communities while the people who founded the company kept that money and bought mansions everywhere from the United States to Canada, etc… No maybe this could have been filmed before even the left knew what a scam BLM was it was but so far watching the show they cater to people who are on the left who believe in things like BLM that are a scam that have done billions of dollars worth the damages to businesses help even done damages to black businesses where they live ending them as if COVID wasn’t enough, That was all a government light especially now and I’m getting off subject that to CDC It’s changed everything and and you can have covid still go to school school she’ll is going to be shut down they shut down in the tire nation based off of a new flu based off a doctor’s lies.. But these are the people they pick and I notice and I notice so far they don’t want to be biracial and they all have to stand 1st some type of social Justice Warrior type of Is thing. And before all of you who fell in love with this show and it’s show and how do I criticize it and bring up this stuff that I think is racist even though you’re using biracial couples I still think that sticks to the guns of the leftist ideology like Joe Biden said every commercial now is a vote by a racial couple who cares are you qualified like John Pierre is she qualified no she’s horrible she doesn’t know what the hell she’s doing this because she’s black and gay and immigrant doesn’t make her qualified for the job like kamala Harris she is not qualified she doesn’t know what the hell she’s doing and what she did to the black community with prison sentences and everything should be enough for every black person in America to be pissed.. But you’re gonna have a show like this that caters to lift this ideology and everybody loves it when the fuck is America gonna wake up. I’ll do that it’s a good show but the way it goes about things is wrong and it’s racist in itself but how dare a conservative say that right.. I guess that must make me a racist and a bad person for for calling out the truth..

  17. I like that an African-American actor is given the leadership in the show. What I don’t like though, is that DB isn’t a team-player at all. She tells people to work harder and pick up their pace, while she has nothing to bring to the table. She needs to step up her game and help her crew members.
Leadership means getting connected with your team members, not just telling them to hurry up.

  18. Love the show love Danielle & Awesome crew or team; love all the families keep it moving toward. Seriously thank you for y’all godly acts. God bless you all Everyone. Now! how can I nonimate a person that fits your description of giving back to the community.

  19. The host is so over the top and obnoxious, after 2 episodes I had to stop watching because of her ridiculous manner. The other people seem to do all the work and she just talks loud and doesn’t help. Also I’d question the quality of work being done in 12 hours.

  20. Who created the show? Surely wasn’t any of you. So why start criticizing what DB does when she was hired to do just that. If they needed her to do anything I’m pretty sure they would have her do it. There are always some that have to say something negative.

  21. How do I nominate a disable Family member that’s a Vet who is in need of help desperately. He’s aided quite a few people asking for nothing in return and now he’s badly in need of a helping hand.

  22. My house is so small it is just me and my mom but my mom doesn’t have a lot of room to fit things all the time I have wanted to help but I just don’t know how to yet can you guys please help us we need you

  23. I like the show but can’t handel Danielle. It’s annoying she doesn’t actually contribute to the work or seem to have any knowledge/skills that qualifies her to be on the show. I want to know what the budget is for each house, who pays this, how families are nominated, do families keep everything & what happens to peoples personal property that is remove? Overall very cute idea, helping people in need.

  24. So…on episode 3 and loosing interest…while concept is great…there is a ‘theme’ in family selections and unrealistic Renovations….I mean come on…financially irresponsible!!!! WHO IS BACKING SOME of these ridiculous costs??? Really, a CRANE to lift a trailer over a home, this was more of a theatrics then a necessity. great concept, but money would have been better spent on communities who have unhealthy situations…yes I get homeowners vs slumlords…but instead take a community of worthy families who would take care of their properties and build a community of tiny homes and get them out of slum lord situations, especially post covid slumlord raising prices and NOT fixing their rentals….. do something with habitat humanity and those type of companies and have homes for those that deserve it….not for homeowners that chose not to take care of their homes….I mean yeah…cant make everyone happy, but what a waste of money when there are so many more with no roof over their heads…AND are these people even qualified???? I see where the network is producing a DRAMA SHOW, THERE IS NO WAY THEY DID this without prior knowledge to the owners and surrounding neighbors and city codes….I mean episode 3. A window with a helicopter….waste of money
