Death can change many lives, even if it might be fake. Insomniacs After School Episode 3 is the second episode of a show that explores this topic through the eyes of two teenagers. Insomniacs After School is a romance and drama anime based on a manga written and illustrated by Makoto Ojiro. The series is animated by Studio LIDENFILMS and is also known as Kimisomu Episode 3 and Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia Episode 3 in original Japanese.
The Astronomy Club suffered a terrible tragedy when one of its members committed suicide some time ago. The club and where they used to work, the observatory, are all lying empty without use. It is the perfect scenario for two outsiders who don’t know a better use for their time to accidentally meet and go on a journey that would change their lives forever. They haven’t lived much of their lives, to begin with, so it’s not that big of a deal.
Grumpy insomniac Ganta Nakami stumbles across the moderately rebellious yet easygoing Isaki Magari in the Astronomy Club’s abandoned observatory. Magari is surprised and tries to avoid a confrontation, only to be stopped by a broken door, forcing the two of them inside. The two forge an unlikely friendship, leading them to use the observatory as a safe space for them to interact and discuss the one thing that ails them both- inability to sleep.

The astrology club is back on thanks to the excuse that the two protagonists gave to stay in their beloved location. Now, the only two current members have to do all the club activities together, and they don’t mind doing any of it. Although, no one really said they have to be a twosome while doing it, and there is a very tempting plot point still left to use for the show, one which involves our two main characters looking for someone else to join the club.

The plot point we talked about above also adds a few more people into the equation, affecting the carefully curated dynamic that is exclusively shared by the protagonists. Do they tell the other person about their issue? Do they only keep them around for club activities and not the sleeping part? Do they even need a new member? So many questions to answer! The sleepless twosome decides not to talk publically at all for the safety of their discovery and thinks of different ways to spruce the place up a bit. Alongside multiple different ideas comes the very real and only necessary requirement of finding someplace to sleep. Luckily, Ganta discovers something perfect for the same- a leather chair that will be thrown away if nobody uses it. Alongside the chair comes a cat who loves sitting on it, and alongside the cat comes their teacher, who discovers their hideout.
