Insomniacs After School Episode 12 Review- Just A Little Longer

Insomniacs After School Episode 12 Review: The Love That Is Around Us

After months of unabashedly praising this show for everything that it has ever done, I feel like I have earned myself a nitpick or two. This episode wasn’t lower in quality than the ones that came before it, and I enjoyed it almost as much, but it suffered because of the show’s singular fault so far in all the time it has been on air- its pacing. The moment the previous episode ended as it did and I saw that there were two episodes left instead of just one, it was obvious what the second to the last episode would be about- nothing.

We left the previous episode with an extremely tender kiss shared by Ganta and Isaki with a request from Isaki to leave things like it is until the duration of their trip. With two episodes left, if the show had not addressed that happening, it would have been a huge missed opportunity and wouldn’t have made logical sense given how big of a change this was bound to make in the lives of these two. Thus, we were left with an episode where the two did everything but discuss what happened in the previous episode, and we were left with having to move their relationship forward with the help of other people.

Ganta Ukegawa Insomniacs After School Episode 12

Ukegawa and Isaki’s friends showed up again this week unexpectedly. While it is always nice to see them, it was obvious that their arrival at this time had happened to pad time in the episode, and they didn’t bring much value to the current plotline as it was. Well, except for the singular moment Ukegawa shared with Ganta in this episode, which was fantastic. The bond that these guys share is enviable and always fun to watch. You know that Ukegawa is genuinely happy to have his friend back and to see him happy.

Other than the obvious padding, there was still a lot to enjoy in Insomniacs After School Episode 12. A very cute argument between Isaki and Ganta about the minor annoyances each had with the other was done well, and both of them not mentioning what happened at all was conveyed in a way that didn’t make it feel like the show was stringing us along. Their setting up a pseudo-household together already is such a unique way to view things and has been a refreshing way to handle this whole trip.

Speaking of the trip, it is going to come to an end one way or the other in the next and final episode. While I am not happy to see the show go and would rather still have it around and kicking, I still feel like ending it in Episode 12 and not 13 would have been better. Maybe the creators have something great in store for us, and it could not have been accomplished without throwing the wrench in the story that this episode did, but only time will tell about that part.

Verdict

Insomniacs After School Episode 12 suffered from being a penultimate episode where nothing much of note happened. It was still a fantastic time nonetheless, but the ending couldn’t come any sooner.
