Incantation on Netflix: All About Upcoming Taiwanese Horror Movie

Incantation is a Taiwanese horror film coming on Netflix in July 2022. The film was first released in Taiwan on 18 March 2022 and became the highest-grossing Taiwanese horror film. Following its success, it will be available globally through Netflix. It is directed by Kevin Ko from a screenplay he co-wrote with Chang Che-wei.

Looking at the trailer you can find similarities with films like The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity, which have similar elements like finding old footage and characters who address the audience through the camera. The director also said that he was inspired by Internet cultures, such as forum threads, YouTuber confessionals and email chain letters and we could find these elements in the film.

Incantation Cast

The cast of the film includes Tsai Hsuan-yen as Ruo-nan, Huang Sin-ting as Duo-duo, Kao Ying-hsuan as Chi-ming, Sean Lin as Dong and RQ as Yuan.

Incantation Plot/Synopsis

The official Netflix synopsis of the film reads – Six years ago, Li Ronan was cursed after breaking a religious taboo. Now, she must protect her daughter from the consequences of her actions. The trailer starts with a psychological test with a ferris wheel and a moving train, which embeds the idea that our intentions can shape real-world outcomes.

It shows the story of a mother trying to save her child from a deadly curse which has been put on her due to her actions. She tried to explore around with an ancient incantation for her newly found blog, not knowing what she was doing. Not thinking of anything of it at the time, but afterwards, scary things started happening which shakes up her family.
