I Hate Christmas Season 2 Review: The Holiday Dating Disaster Continues

I Hate Christmas Season 2 Review: Pilar Fogliati as Gianna, Nicolas Maupas as Davide, Alessio Praticò as Mario, Fiorenza Pieri as Margherita, Marzia Ubaldi as Matilde, Cecilia Bertozzi as Caterina, Giovanni Anzaldo as Nicola, and others are the cast of the Italian romantic comedy series. There are six episodes in the Netflix series, each lasting about 30–35 minutes. The show features subtitles and English dubbing.

I Hate Christmas Review Contains No Spoilers

I Hate Christmas Season 2 picks up where the first one ended. Gianna is sulking about having no date for the holiday. However, a mystery man shows up at her doorstep, asking her out to be his date. Well, we won’t reveal who the mystery man is. But the first episode gives you hope that Gianna’s love life has finally gotten off to a hopeful start.

Sadly, the excitement lasts only for some time when the makers take the typical and repetitive approach to her dating life. What I don’t like about such shows is that they never try to bring any uniqueness to their premise. Even if we know the person is right for the protagonist, the makers will bring in new men to confuse them. It’s been happening for years in such shows, and it seems like no one wants to think differently.

I Hate Christmas Season 2 Review 1

In the new season, we don’t feel bad for Gianna anymore for not having a holiday date because when she had one, she freaked out. The thrill of wanting more adds a seed of doubt to her mind—what if there’s someone else who’s better? Well, the makers do add new men to the story. The show just ends up becoming toxic dating loop for a grown woman who can’t make up her mind. It is annoying even when such shows feature men in this dilemma. However, that happens rarely in a fictional world!

The Netflix series I Hate Christmas Season 2 ruins the festive mood of watching a good rom-com series. Instead of making you smile with the cheesiness of romance, it irks you with the indecisiveness shown by the main lead, thanks to the creative decision made by the makers. When the same saga continues, one loses interest in knowing who she will end up with. Such hasty dating decisions don’t give the character to develop any chemistry with anyone.

I Hate Christmas Season 2 Review: Final Thoughts

Overall, the Italian Netflix series just refuses to be fun, cute, or mushy. It’s the same old story rehashed in different ways, with a character obsessed with breaking the fourth wall. The family drama doesn’t add any sincerity, considering how immature Gianna is made to look. The dating disaster continues and gets frustrating.

I Hate Christmas Season 2 made me miss Dash and Lily a lot. No series has come closer in the last 2-3 years with an endearing and romantic love story, laced with some good witty moments like Dash & Lily.

The series is now streaming on Netflix.
