Hunter With a Scalpel Episode 9 Recap

The episode opens with Se-hyun, exhausted from the night before, waking up and thinking about Jung-hyun’s words from the night before. However, the good memories come to an end when she gets a call from her father and asks him to stay away from her and that she can handle it all on her own. Jo-gyun teases her and tells her that she will eventually have to come to him on her own. Meanwhile, Jung-hyun gets an earful from his supervisor and then gets into an altercation with Choi Jong-soo for not reporting his findings.

With questions lingering about what Se-hyun is hiding and trying to connect the dots, Jung-hyun can’t help but question her allegiances. Meanwhile, Se-hyun goes to the genetics department and plants evidence to help her in her grand scheme. Later, Joon-kyung questions why she didn’t tell Jung-hyun about the Pancuronium bromide found in the third murder, and she plays it off as negligence on the police’s part. However, Joon-kyun isn’t convinced and sees through Se-hyun’s facade, informing her that they are taking apart the temporary autopsy centre. Se-hyun is shocked but tries to keep it together.

At the police station, Suk-woo finds the USB stick in the box that Jo-gyun had planted in their laundry. As Se-hyun calls him, she realises that it’s getting diverted to her office phone. Meanwhile, the police play the contents of the stick, and it turns out to be Se-hyun that Se-eun had recorded on the night that he murdered Hyung-jo. He is shocked and betrayed, while Se-hyun threatens to expose Myung-kwan when he tries to throw him under the bus.

Concerned, he calls Se-hyun, but she has more pressing matters at hand – an inspection team has barged into their office and is wreaking havoc. As things escalate, it turns out that she’s being investigated for fabricating reports. Meanwhile, the police realise that the victim might be Hyung-jo and rush to his house. Jung-hyun, however, goes to talk to Se-hyun and confronts her for hiding the presence of drugs in the victims’ bodies. She gets defensive and questions his investigative skills, but he’s not having any of it.

He questions her involvement and asks some pointed questions, but she refuses to tell him the truth. He asks her whether he can trust her, and she emotionally tells him that asking her this just means that he doesn’t trust her. He asks her about Kang Eun-soo, but she tells him never to meet her again.

What a dramatic turn of events in this episode as Se-hyun’s world turns upside down thanks to her not working with the police. I think this episode was quite tense as the world collapses around our protagonist. I am still trying to understand why she wouldn’t just work with Jung-hyun to catch Jo-gyun, since it seems like he’s a great guy. But then we wouldn’t have this unnecessary cat and mouse game that only the serial killer is having fun with. Of course, the series will turn things around one way or another, but this seems forced, although I did quite enjoy this episode! The catch, here, is not taking anything seriously.
