Class of 09 Episode 3 Review: Thank You For Not Driving

It is as clear as day that Class of 09 is moving in a very ABC’s Quantico or Netflix’s The Witcher fashion with a past, present and future timeline going side by side. In this episode, you can see that the show is really trying to streamline things and make it more understandable to the viewers- its themes, motivations and nature, in general.

As the episode title suggests, driving is key to this episode. For starters, the past timeline is dedicated to the FBI teaching Poet how to do a J-turn and, that is mostly it. But, this sets a precedent for what is to come in the present and future timeline. The present is dedicated to Tayo’s hunt for Tupirik and, Poet and Hour’s discussion on the crime-fighting database called ‘Better Life’ (an ironic and fun name to give to a system that will soon define most of the FBI agents’ lives, for better or worse).

When we head to the future, Better Life is clearly not making lives better but, is growing obscenely dangerous and threatening, not only to the bureau but, to mankind itself. After Amos’ death, Poet meets with Hour. The disagreement from the present timeline is not the tension between the two but, the romance from the past is what makes the two shift in their seats.

They discuss Better Life’s danger as they drive. However, the final nod to the episode’s title comes when the driver is no longer a conscious and controlled one and, we hold witness to an invasion like no other.

Class of 09 Episode 3: Final Thoughts

One can really get the hang of Class of 09 after the third episode which delineates a lot of things and differentiates it from the other shows that have existed in this genre. The dystopian and science fiction aspect really takes a step up a notch in this one, which makes this show more than just another crime thriller.

It was from episode two that the grey in each of the characters started to reflect on the screen with Tayo holding everyone’s special interest. Nonetheless, episode three continues this trope and, there seem to be more questions than answers at this point about several of the people from the class of 09, especially Tayo. But be assured there is some interesting revelation made at the end that will keep you craving for more.
