Netflix’s How to Ruin Christmas 2 Review Contains No Spoilers

How to Ruin Christmas season 1 ends with a lot of drama. While the wedding finally happens, Khaya (Yonda Thomas) tells Tumi (Busi Lurayi) that he has something to tell. Fans have been wondering what could that be? Is he having an affair? Does he know something about her father? Without giving away the secret, I want to tell you all that he’s not cheating on Tumi. So fans can breathe a sigh of relief.

In How to Ruin Christmas 2, Khaya’s secret isn’t a headache anymore. The Twala and Sello families meet again after a year to celebrate Christmas. Everyone hopes that this Christmas will be much better and truly joyful than the previous one. Sadly, someone from one of the family members passes away. Yet again, Tumi gets dragged into this tragedy, and you’ll find out how once you watch the show.

We see the family dealing with the loss, differences, value of money, and love in those four episodes. Amid the emotional drama, many light moments will make you laugh.

Like season 1, How to Ruin Christmas 2 keeps South African culture alive on screen. Whether it’s the language, dressing or family values, they’ve shown it beautifully on screen. In the current season, too, Tumi is the driving force for all the problems and also solutions. Along with Tumi’s mess, there’s an important parallel plot going on between Beauty Sello (Thando Thabethe) and Sbu Twala (Sandile Mahlangu).

The ending of season 2 of How to Ruin Christmas might break hearts, but it’s good for Tumi. The ending didn’t leave us on a cliffhanger. But it also teased us with a possibility of a fresh storyline.

Busi Lurayi as Tumi Sello shines throughout. Whether it was emotional, comedy or drunk scenes, Busi is phenomenal. In one scene, Tumi calls herself ‘toxic’. But I think she’s got quite a lot since the mess she was in season 1. Thando Thabethe gives an incredible performance as Beauty. Charmaine Mtinta, Lehlohonolo Saint Seseli and the rest of the cast plays their part well.

How to Ruin Christmas 2 Review: Final Thoughts

Overall, Sellos and Twalas try their best to bring back the Christmas spirit. But it pains to see them dealing with a loss. They also make us laugh with the drama and entertainment packed in those four hours.

The series is now streaming on Netflix.
