How I Met Your Father Season 2 Episode 7 dives into the past relationships of the friends Sophie, Valentina, Sid, Charlie, Jesse and Ellen. As they recollect their valentine’s day moments, the audience are shown the past of the friends and the possible future. The ending also has a surprising factor to finding the father of Sophie’s son. The sitcom creator is Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, and it serves as a standalone sequel to everyone’s favourite show from the early 2000s- How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM).
We see the return of Hilary Duff as Sophie, Chris Lowell as Jesse, Francia Raisa as Valentina, Suraj Sharma as Sid, Tom Ainsley as Charlie, Tien Tran as Ellen and Kim Cattrall as the future Sophie. We will also see Ashley Reyes as Hannah, Leighton Meester as Meredith, Josh Peck as Drew, Meaghan Rath as Parker, Michael McDonald as Warren, Jessica St Clair as Megan, Judy as Judy, Morgan Smith as Alice and Stony Blyden as Jasper. In addition to the old cast, we have Mark Consuelos, Constance Marie, Michael Cimino and John Corbett joining the cast for the new season.
The seventh episode of the show’s second season is called A Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Valentine’s Day. It is directed by Pamela Fryman, and the runtime for the episode is 21 minutes.

– How I Met Your Father Season 2 Episode 7 Review Contains Spoilers –
The episode starts with Jesse feeling sick about Valentine’s Day, to which Sophie and Valentina ask him why he hates such a beautiful occasion. Just at that time, Ellen enters Sid’s bar with an ice figure made to represent her girlfriend Rachel, who has left for Florida since the latter’s aunt broke her back. As Ellen feels down for not being able to celebrate her first Valentine’s Day with her girlfriend, Sophie shares a school day incident to cheer her up. Ellen doesn’t feel her story to be motivating, so Valentina pitches her story about Brendan.
Valentina’s story follows both her and Sophie getting two-timed by Brendan. When Sophie and Valentina had no clue about each other, a guy called Brendan dated both of them. When the girls found out about his game, the two shunned him and became the best friends that they are now. Meanwhile, Sid is completely heartbroken because he couldn’t spend Valentine’s Day with his wife, Hannah.
Sid then explains how he met Hannah, and the viewers are shown a flashback where Drew, Jesse and Sid go to a party. Sid meets Hannah, falls in love and presents a cardboard with bagels stuck, shaped like a heart. The two share a kiss and officially become a couple. At the same time, Jesse also explains how he has been confessing “I love you” to many schools since his school days. This pisses off Sophie, and she starts to argue with Jesse.
Sophie feels that Jesse has confessed to many women and that she isn’t special to him. She feels that when he confessed to her, it wasn’t real. When Sophie gets up and moves to the bar chairs, Hannah surprises Sid. Sid wasn’t expecting Hannah because she said the flight had been re-routed.
Charlie also shares his Valentine’s Day story, where he covered his entire body with whipped cream for his girlfriend, who stood him up. The scene showing him covered in the cream with cherries right over his bosom would make you crack. Moving on, Ellen gets a video call from Rachel, and the two celebrate the day via phone. Sid and Hannah are happy to spend the day too!
Jesse moves to Sophie and clarifies that he did mean it when he confessed to her. He tells her how he lost hope in love when Meredith rejected his proposal, and the video went viral. After that sad event, Jesse expresses that, finally, Sophie is the one he can trust fully. The two then reconcile. Jesse then asks Sophie to continue her childhood story. Sophie shares how she stuck posters with her photo in her neighbourhood so her unknown dad could join the dance with her, but unfortunately, a creepy guy showed up.
How I Met Your Father Season 2 Episode 7 Ending
The future Sophie tells her son that love feels special on Valentine’s Day. She then mentions the father to his son, who wonders why he isn’t even in her story. We are then shown clips of all the guys, Jesse, Sid, Charlie, Drew and Ian, leaving us to question whether the father isn’t one among these five. In fact, Sid is a married man, then how can he possibly be the father? However, just like Drew being in the background until he became one of the main characters, the father could have been already shown in the episodes, and we might have missed it.
How I Met Your Father Season 2 Episode 7: Final Thoughts
The previous sixth episode was disastrous since the jokes felt forced and had nothing interesting to share. Thankfully, the creators resurrected the show with the seventh episode because it was hilarious. The viewers getting a peak into the characters’ past windows helps us calculate who might be the father.

In the end, I don’t think the son was commenting that the dad wasn’t in the story at all, I think he was commenting that Ian wasn’t in the story as he was the last referenced and on a date on a “different Valentine’s Day.” I would assume they were showing one of those 5 WERE the father and it most certainly won’t be Ian who clearly will have a future with so won’t be the dad per HIMYM rules.
