House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 1 Ending Explained

Following Lucerys’ death and, Rhaenyra’s mourning of her son, the queen demands Aemond Targaryen. This demand is met by Daemon, who with the help of a transaction with the White Worm (Lady Mysaria), ends up getting acquainted with the spies in the Red Keep. The iconic duo Blood and Cheese are introduced here. Daemon hires the former butcher and ratcatcher to get a son for a son aka kill Aemond for Luke’s death.

Blood and Cheese enter the Red Keep, go past a drink King Aegon II and finally come into Aemond’s room (where he was planning a take-over with Ser Cristian Cole). However, Aemond is not in his room. Cheese wants to finish off the business and sneak away but, Blood reminds him how Daemon is going to not give them the rest of the money if they do not kill the silver-haired prince.

With luck, Cheese finds Helaena in the chamber of her children and holds her at knife point. Blood enters the scene and forces Helaena to reveal which one of the two is her son. A whimpering Helaena shows them toddler Prince Jaehaerys. The sleeping child is killed as Helaena takes Princess Jaehaera in her arms and runs away.

The queen lands in Alicent Hightower’s room where she is seen engaging in intercourse with Ser Criston Cole. The two are embarrassed and shocked to see Helaena come in, so unannounced. As Alicent leans over her bed, barely covering herself and asks Helaena what is the matter, the only thing the shocked queen says is ‘They killed the boy’.
