The new episode of House of the Dragon has stirred up the internet once again. And the recent venture of the George R.R. Martin adaption was pushed 10 years ahead, resulting in more drama, politics, and chaos.
The episode is titled ‘The Princes and the Queen’, which is significant to the events. The bond between Alicent Hightower and Rhaenyra Targaryen has evolved into an utter mess. Their once sacred friendship has transformed into a bitter rivalry, with strong character growth.

Queen Alicent has become vexed and displeased and completely changed from a soft-spoken peace-associating figure. At the end of episode 5, her resentments were pretty clear when his father was relieved from the position of Hand of King. She stood up for Rhaenyra and had to pay the price for it, something which won’t get repeated for sure.

On the other hand, Rhaenyra’s rebellious spirit has toned down to some extent. She has become a mother herself and fulfilled her duty to the crown. It almost feels like the princess has surrendered herself to the royal commands which she once desperately disobeyed.
We got a hint of Daemon’s future with Laena, with whom he has a couple of kids now. The ambitious prince and possible heir to the throne, looks comfortably settled in the episode. However, with House of the Dragon, no one can predict the secretive motive that a character embeds.
Another surprise is King Viserys. The usual drunk and incapable king, who faints at the end of episode five, and somehow still finds himself alive. Although, the next generation of Targaryen rulers has not changed their ultimate fate. They still lack a strong leader who can unite the seven kingdoms under the banner of the dragon.
Apart from this, Sir Criston Cole is still serving in the Kingsguard. Which definitely comes as a surprise after his dramatics at the wedding feast. The knight in shining armor has not only managed to retain his job but has successfully prevented his head from reaching the spike.
In the end, the episode looks promising and has elevated the story near to its succession rivalry. The virtues of each character have emboldened and changed their personality completely. Now it will be interesting to see how House Targaryen prevents the doom and mark its stamp on the kingdom of Westeros.
