Hot Skull Review: An Apocalyptic Dystopian World With Secrets Hidden in Every Corner

Netflix’s Turkish dystopian sci-fi mini-series Hot Skull (Sicak Kafa) is finally here and is definitely a piece of art you wouldn’t want to miss. With numerous twists and turns that come along with the chase, the plot will keep you intrigued right till the end while the actors will leave you wanting more with their performance.

Created by Mert Baykal, the series stars Osman Sonant, Hazal Subasi, Sevket Çoruh, Sebnem Hassanisoughi, Ozden Isiltan, and Özgür Emre Yildirim, alongside other cast members.

Netflix’s synopsis of the show reads:

In a dystopian world, as an epidemic spreads through verbal communication, a tyrannical institution pursues a linguist immune to the disease.

-Hot Skull Review contains No spoilers-

Hot Skull brings an intriguing story set in a pandemic-stricken world that has borne the burden of this epidemic for 8 years and is witnessing a reality that is different yet similar to our own. With an epidemic that spreads through verbal communication, the protagonist is an oddity who suffers in his own way while slowly accepting his reality as the only hope for the people.

The show brings out the situation of the pandemic very clearly while also showing us the possibility of what the future could be like. With the powerful trying to establish their control over the public and hot-blooded youth risking their lives to oppose it, the calamity for mankind becomes a stage for these people at the end of the day.

The realistic protagonist will really catch your eye as he doesn’t try to become a hero for the world but tries to run away because he knows what the result of his heroism is. He is aware of the evils hiding behind the facade the institute creates and is not ready to be a lab rat for these people.

On the other hand, the beautiful female lead will come along will with mysteries and also becomes the force pushing the protagonist, only to disappoint and surprise him at the end of the day. I love how the female characters in the show don’t just stay behind the men but come out and lead in their own way.

The show comes along with numerous messages for the viewers who have gone through the calamity during which they have had to let go of their loved one and start anew. It also shines light onto the powers hidden in the dark that grew exponentially during this calamity and continues today.

  1. I agree. Wonderful actors that you warm to straight away but all is not revealed with any of them too soon – very clever character development intertwined of course with the story.
    Each episode was quite genius.
I do hope for a second season.
