Holland Ending Explained
The film starts with Nancy reflecting on her perfect life in tulip-filled Holland, a beautiful dream of a town where everyone lives harmoniously and without any issues. Her life is beautiful and perfect with her doting husband and wonderful son, and after she fires the babysitter for stealing her earrings, she is left irate that such a thing can happen in their perfect town. Frank validates her but reminds her that she might be going overboard, and after reflecting on it a bit, she decides to move on from the incident. Unfortunately, one night, she stumbles upon Polaroid films in her basement that make her question their existence since they don’t have a camera in the home.

Thus starts her investigation into Frank, as she believes that he is the one who is responsible for this issue. She takes the help of her colleague, Dave, to spy on Frank, and after breaking into her husband’s eye clinic, she finds other suspicious items. She is convinced that he’s having an affair, and the exhilaration of being correct turns into an affair between her and Dave as well. When Frank goes to a work event in another town, they follow him, and she breaks into his hotel room to find underwear and other things that point to an affair. Of course, Frank finds out about her snooping and they have a talk about it all, but Nancy isn’t convinced.
She slowly realises how trapped she feels in her marriage and meets Dave more, continuing with the spying. Eventually, Nancy finds a woman’s name in Frank’s things and calls her number and is eventually told that the woman is dead. She digs deeper, only to find several numbers noted in Frank’s notebook, which turn out to be zip codes. Further research reveals several women murdered at those zip codes, and this makes her spiral. Elsewhere, Dave follows Frank to a remote cabin and finds him slitting a woman’s throat. Frank spots him, and it turns into a fight, and Dave seemingly ends up killing him.

However, when he meets a distraught Nancy, he tells her that he has told Frank off and warned him not to come back. As the two reconcile, Nancy realises that Dave wasn’t being truthful when Frank shows up out of the blue. Dave comes clean to Nancy, telling her the truth of what happened and tries to call the police. A scuffle ensues as Nancy tries to stop him, which ends up with Dave getting gravely injured. Eventually, Nancy comes across Frank, who threatens her and tells her that she wouldn’t survive without him. Another scuffle ensues and Nancy ends him injuring him, eventually running off home with her son.
The end sequence showcases her standing alone with her son, looking back at her life and questioning whether it was as great as she had previously imagined.

Very confusing, feels unfinished and unsatisfying ending. Love the cast,
