Debuting for the third time as a music artist, Hwang Min-hyun is ready to show you his Hidden Side, as he is now out to light up the stage with his solo performance for the first time. Signed under Pledis Entertainment, now a subsidiary of HYBE Labels, he recently rose to fame for his leading role in the K-drama series, Alchemy of Souls. However, what people mostly miss out on is his music career.
Min-hyun was originally the main vocalist of the K-pop group N’UEST in 2012, but he later went on to audition for Produce 101, which got him the ticket for his second debut as a member of the group WANNA ONE. Now, in 2023, he’s once again back on the stage to take the audience by storm with his singing and dancing talents, as portrayed in his solo album Truth or Lie.
Hidden Star is the titular track of the album, otherwise also consisting of five b-sides. The music video has a dark tone to it, and illustrates Min-hyun in a sultry light, in turn inviting you to explore the different sides of the artist. The tune itself is quite minimalistic and leads with a pop sound, with hints of R&B that the singer makes his own.
As he’s been missing from the music scene for quite some time, and had chosen to give more time to his stint as an actor, the video quite similarly disseminates a ‘Missing’ poster for him. Eventually, he walks in with a couple of tricks up his sleeve. Switching from the captivating dance sequence while sporting a tiger-print sequinned jacket, to a more debonair style in his suit and tie, he keeps vanishing from sight and teleporting himself from one location to the other in the blink of an eye.
Just as much he doesn’t want you to take your eyes off him, his magic tricks will keep you hooked to the antics seen in the music video. Moreover, the song carries the classic K-pop mood, so for some, it may seem as if Min-hyun has played it safe for his solo debut, while others are bound to be in awe of his comeback as a music star who’s ready to show his numerous talents to the world.
