In a new feat, Hulu has set out to reboot the 1987 supernatural horror film Hellraiser, based on the noteworthy horror author Clive Barker’s novella The Hellbound Heart. The terrifying icon of the ’80s movie, Pinhead, is back again to haunt its new victims.
David Bruckner of The Night House fame has directed the new piece of Barker’s legacy. The movie stars Odessa A’zion as Riley, Jamie Clayton as Pinhead, in addition to Brandon Flynn, Drew Starkey, Adam Faison, Goran Višnjić, and more as undisclosed characters.
Disney Platform Distribution has also released an official synopsis of the film that reads:
A young woman struggling with addiction comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension.
While Pinhead is his same old cold-blooded self as always, there are a lot of new bits that have been introduced with the Hellraiser trailer. The film will completely restart this horrifying saga and is not a sequel to the previous installments of the franchise. Let’s get into the trailer and unpack all the details therein.

Hulu’s Hellraiser Trailer Breakdown
An ominous track builds up as a young man walks towards a mysterious puzzle box while Goran Višnjić’s calls the same “beautiful” in the background. The latter’s character urges the boy to solve the puzzle while some other eerie details of a tapestry in a room are revealed. Twisting and turning the puzzle box, the boy asks the man what he’d be getting as a prize for solving it, to which the other replies that rather he’d be getting one himself.
The final twist is deadly as it pricks the boy’s hand and the puzzle absorbs his blood while a supernatural force seems to be tugging at him wildly. As can be perceived, the boy is taken.
Odessa A’zion’s character is revealed to us, who along with a friend seems to be resolving the bloody mystery of this puzzle. They’ve got all the details down and the most important bit that “it opens up and it cuts you” is most likely the key but also the start of something bad.
Once the person’s blood is extracted, then “they come to collect”, “they” being Pinhead and its companions. Eventually, Riley’s friend is also taken and held captive by force in a very gory manner with seeming chains mutilating their body.
And finally, Clayton’s Pinhead walks out and shows itself to a girl who’s about to die as chains rush past it, possibly attempting to unleash the same kind of murderous fury as before. There are a lot of other symbols and drawings shown to us via the trailer, but mere glimpses of the same render it nearly impossible to make out what their significance is.
