The iconic queer show came out a year ago, and we decided to compile some of the best moments from Heartstopper. It stars Joe Locke, Kit Connor, William Gao, Yasmin Finney, Sebastian Croft, Kizzy Edgell, Corinna Brown, Tobie Donovan, Olivia Colman, Stephen Fry, Jenny Walser, Rhea Norwood and Cormac Hyde-Corrin, alongside other cast members. The show is directed by Euros Lyn and is based on the webcomic of the same name created by Alice Oseman.
The show follows two teenagers in school, their slow-burn romance filled with wholesomeness and mild sexuality crisis. However, because of its brilliant reconciliation of bi-erasure and autonomy over choosing when to reveal your queerness, people have gravitated vastly towards the show. So, without any further ado, here are some of the best moments of the show.
Best Moments From Heartstopper Season 1
When Nick Gets Ink on His Hands

This is one of the first moments in the series when the two characters really start mingling. Their chemistry and general ease with each other become so clear. We are already rooting for these two to get together. They’re brilliantly cute and adorable. This moment is also there specifically in the comic, which is the first indication that the adaptation will be made with the best interests at heart.
Elle’s Friendship with Tara and Darcy

The trio become fast friends after Elle transfers schools from Truham. They become the first people to be nice to her in the new school. Now that they have all become a close-knit group of friends, the scope for humour is too high. For Elle, this is especially important because she came into this school not having any friends at all, and since her friends are in Truham, it was difficult for her to make some new companions in this school.
Snow Day With Nellie

Nick and Charlie are becoming closer friends, and the first indication of that is when Charlie meets his dog, Nellie. It is already the cutest when Nick plays with Charlie’s hair asking whether he’s cut it or not. And then, when they do start playing in the snow, it is the sweetest, their connection is just magnetic, and if Charlie thought his crush was going to go away, it wasn’t. The good news is, though, Nick feels the exact same way.

Nick Wants to Hold Charlie’s Hand

Here is when the plot really starts to thicken because we get the first few indications that Nick likes Charlie romantically. Maybe he might need to rethink his sexuality now that these feelings have started to rise within him. Moreover, this is the first time that Charlie’s presence in the scene is at the bare minimum, so it’s not even like these feelings are some projection from his crush, but all Nick Nelson itself. The hug after this scene all but cements the fact that something is blossoming between the two characters, with Nick finally embracing it.
The First Kiss

As you can imagine, it was filled with nervous excitement, because Nick admits to Charlie that he likes someone but shouldn’t assume it’s a she. They both start leaning towards each other, and it is the tensest moment till now. They’re testing the waters, and the energy is so sweet and wholesome that it consumes the space. It marks the beginning of something real happening between the two characters, and not in a platonic way.

Their Moment in the Rain

While the kiss ends quite abruptly, Nick makes his way to Charlie’s home in the pouring rain to tell him exactly what happened that day. It is the grand romantic gesture that makes up every rom-com, but for this series, this moment is one comic book fans have been waiting passionately for. It is so sweet because Nick had to come in terrible weather, and his telling Charlie about having a proper full-on gay crisis was something queer people can relate to all too well.
“We Thank You For Your Service”

Imogen wants to talk to Tara about Nick Nelson and her, but the conversation gets sidetracked when Tara blatantly talks about how she kissed a girl at a party, and people still ask her about some guy. Darcy chips in to say something similar, and the interaction could not get any funnier, but when Imogen reveals that she’s an ally, Darcy and Tara both sarcastically thank her. It has become one of the show’s funniest lines, paralleling only Tao’s grim observation that people can be straight.
Nick Helps Charlie Clean Up

The latter is covered in mud, but Nick decides to clean up only a part of his cheek. Isaac sees this but promises not to say anything about it. Once again, we get the feeling from this scene that Nick really does care about Charlie and even though they’re not supposed to be seen together in school, this moment makes it clear that the rule comes secondary to Charlie’s safety and happiness. This is also the part where Nick apologises for asking Charlie to keep their relationship a secret. A true upgrade from Ben Hope.
The Birthday Gift

In classic Nick Nelson fashion, he goes out of his way to bring Charlie the best gift. Even though it’s a little handmade, and there are a bunch of stickers, it is still indicative of how Nick always keeps Charlie in mind. Their relationship is the cutest because Nick likes Charlie in a romantic way and not a friend way, which is also one of the best moments in the show. Nick also gets hazed by Tao here, but things are still pretty chill between all the friends.
Nick Comes Out To His Mother

This is perhaps the king of all the best moments because fans have shared multiple times how they have come out to their own parents using this video. The reach and impact that this series has on queer audiences are some of the reasons why it is so popular. Apart from being a generally wholesome and unproblematic show, it also does a great job of representing the different facets of the queer community, something that the creator of the comic and the show wanted to highlight in this series.
The official social media handle of the series shared a video with the cast members that there is something big coming this week, and it could possibly be the release date and trailer for Heartstopper Season 2. Fans are incredibly excited to see the new instalment with some new characters in this season.
