Head Over Heels Episode 2 Recap

The episode starts with Seong-ah getting an earful from her teachers for turning the bathroom into a waterpark, but despite saving his life, Gyeon-woo remains unimpressed with her. He starts to keep a distance from her, but she continues to tirelessly protect him. Meanwhile, his classmates spread rumours that, in spite of being a star athlete at his previous school, he transferred because he is an arsonist.

Seong-ah sweet-talks Gyeon-woo’s grandmother into inviting her home and uses the opportunity to plant several protective amulets around his house. While the two are alone, things get heated up between them, and he softens up for her when he learns that she’s an orphan. The pair get to know more about each other during their time at Gyeon-woo’s house, and even Ji-ho helps her to plant the amulets. As it turns out, Ok-soon has already figured out Gyeon-ah’s true identity and thanks her for her help.

The next morning, Ji-ho tells Seong-ah that Gyeon-woo had informed her to stay away from him as the rumour of the fire spreads like wildfire at school. However, Seong-ah is not convinced and, instead, tells Ji-ho later that she knows he’s a good person – it’s not his fault that misfortune follows him around like a plague.

The next morning, scared that Gyeon-woo might die in a fire, a desperate Seong-ah rushes to find her love and stop him from getting murdered by a fire ghost. Just as it seems like things are getting out of hand, Ji-ho rushes in to save both Seong-ah and Gyeon-woo, who would otherwise have died in the fire. Afterwards, though, he continues to be belligerent and refuses to comply with the teachers. Seong-ah questions why he is doing this, and he fires back that she should help herself before meddling in his business.

Meanwhile, Gyeon-woo refuses to join the archery team, despite the coach’s request for him to give it another shot.

That night, Ok-soon, having died at home, arrives to ask Seong-ah to look after Gyeon-woo and hold his hand. She rushes over to comfort him, while he is heartbroken at losing his only family. At the funeral hall, Gyeon-woo is perplexed to find the shaman in front of him and screams at her to leave, but, having had enough, she calls him a brat and asks him to stop talking since she’s here to visit his grandmother. Her outburst leaves him speechless.

What a depressing set of circumstances for these youngsters to find themselves in. Head Over Heels is heartbreaking as it is cute, and the ups and downs of the protagonists’ lives and their emotions keep pulling at your heartstrings. I love the show’s pace and its light-hearted nature, along with the fact that it doesn’t shy away from taking things slower and more emotionally at times. With Ok-soon now dead, I fear things are going to get worse before they get better, and I am hoping for the two teens to find themselves happy at some point.
