Harlan Coben’s Caught Review
Ema Garay is a talented journalist whose latest case involved unveiling the culprit who grooming young teens and abusing them. She begins to look into this case by placing herself as a target for these men as a method to find the culprit but ends up stunned when she unveils the face of the man. But the question is- does the case end here, or is there more to discover?
The plot of the show looks straightforward at first glance, but knowing Harlan Coben thrillers, you should know that there is always more than meets the eye. This series follows this very path and gives us unexpected twists that make you ponder over who can be the real culprit among the many options that stand in front of you. If you have a quick eye, you might just pinpoint the right one very soon, which is a little bit of a surprise but also makes you wonder how it all happened. If not, then you don’t have to worry because there is a good reveal waiting for you.

However, what really struck me more than the plot was the themes that have been captured in this series. The plot has its flaws and many, many boring periods, but the themes in this series are what really kept me interested through it all. The misuse of journalism and the grooming of young teens. These two themes had me captivated; on one side, I witnessed the way Ema is used by the real culprit to report the wrong thing and create a scandal that pushes a man to the edge. On the other hand, seeing young teenagers fished by old perverts for their pleasure through games only shows us the dark side of the internet and how dangerous trusting someone on the internet can be.
Bringing us a harsh reality through these two ideas, I found the show all the more intriguing, giving me a better experience than I had expected. These low expectations for the show really stem from the holes in the plot that had me bored, and the characters presented on screen that had me face-palming myself. Sure, Ema is an amazing journalist who is also getting help from the police, but seeing her accusing a man so strongly on camera had me thinking about the amateur behaviour shown in that particular moment.

While more such instances with Ema and the other characters had me confused, the one other thing I loved about this series was the cinematography. The beautiful, picturesque views of Bariloche were simply stunning, which again has me wondering why I liked everything but the average plot and the annoying characters.
Summing Up
Netflix’s latest Argentinian thriller, Caught, has its interesting moments but many holes that leave you hanging when it comes to the character stories that it teases us with. The themes and views in the show are stunning, but a lot more could have been done when it came to the plot and the characters. You will literally feel like you are being plucked and put in different scenarios every once in a while, leading to confusion.
Watch Caught on Netflix.
