Han River Police Episode 2 Recap

Han River Police episode 2 starts with the ferry almost capsizing and passengers falling off one side. Gi-seok refuses to let the captain inform anyone about the peril that they are in and instead tries to keep things hushed. Meanwhile, the river police rush to the scene and start getting everyone on their boat. Du-jin climbs up the side of the cruise and calms everyone down, and starts to rescue them one by one as Gi-seok tries to get the boat started at all costs, much to the captain’s chagrin.

Inside the captain’s quarters, Gi-seok tries to take the keys from the captain and harass him into starting the cruise when Du-jin rushes in and beats him over the head to render him unconscious. With him out of the way, they anchor the boat and start to go through it to rescue anyone left behind. They further take Baek-cheol’s help to get more people down, but the disaster just keeps on happening. Eventually, they are able to get everyone off safely, and the media rushes to get a grasp on the news. As Gi-seok continues to cause a scene in front of everyone, Man-dae stops him and addresses everyone, finally handling the situation.

Later on, the three of them decide to go for a drink but are unable to get Na-hee to join them, while Gi-seok meets a shaman to learn what awaits his life. That night, the team all meet up to have dinner together, along with Baek-cheol and his team. Du-jin and Baek-cheol talk about how the latter let Du-jin’s brother die, and Baek-cheol refuses to answer him when Du-jin asks what happened that day. Du-jin walks off in anger, and Na-hee runs after him. He finds himself at the columbarium, and Du-jin remembers his past friendship with Baek-cheol.

Du-jin’s brother and Baek-cheol’s sister were supposed to get married, and she was also pregnant. However, something unfortunate happened that changed the dynamic of the group – their happy friendship devolved into heartbreak and misery for everyone. In the present, Du-jin asks Na-hee to meet his brother Won-jin and the two walk off talking about his family. Meanwhile, Baek-cheol meets his sick nephew and leaves money for his sister.

Meanwhile, Man-dae is furious with the way his business is running and tells Gi-seok that he will reevaluate his position in the company if he doesn’t take care of the mess. The next day, the river police assess the situation regarding the stuck boat and wonder what to do about it – Cheon-seok asks him to wait for the spring tide so that the boat can come out of the sand on its own. That night, Gi-seok goes to meet Baek-cheol and offers him a job in lieu of a lot of money, to which he agrees after some thought. However, he clears it out that this is the last time.

Gi-seok gets Baek-cheol and his team to get something from the ship while the river police squad respond to a call of a dead body being found in the river. Mu-jin is shocked to find the captain’s body, and they send it off for post-mortem. On their way back, they see the barge attached to the abandoned cruise ship and rush to see what’s up. Meanwhile, on the barge, Baek-cheol’s men find out what’s in the boxes and try to wrap up their work quickly.

Unfortunately, the two friends-turned-enemies are about to come face to face at a very interesting and shady juncture.

Han River Police Episode 2 Review

The second episode fixes Gi-seok as the stupid muscle man who usually always does everything the opposite way of what he is told. Mu-jin and his squad are quite an entertaining bunch and usually are also the ones who deliver on the funny moments. That being said, the series is more of a drama than anything and is meant not to be taken too seriously, which, I think, also reflects on the extremely short runtime. The characters are sweet and loving, and the distinction between the good and bad characters is quite on the face.

That being said, the mystery surrounding Du-jin’s brother’s death and Baek-cheol’s role in it is one of the more interesting parts of the storyline and made me more curious than anything else. The other things seem to be quite the everyday ordeal. However, it’s a nice watch as a pastime and perhaps makes more sense to binge than as a weekly affair since the stakes aren’t high enough for the wait.
