Where can I even start? Whatever was going on in the mind of Gunther’s Millions docuseries director, Aurelien Leturgie, I don’t know and don’t wish to know. He probably wanted to expose the gruesome truths and ironically tease how powerless people can be even after knowing about unsettling issues.
Speaking of the docuseries, it is all about a German Shepherd dog, Gunther, who is the sole owner of a $500 million trust fund. How did the dog get it? What is happening with all those money? All these questions are answered in this docuseries.

There are various cameos and features in Gunther’s Millions however, the notable cast includes Maurizio Mian, Lee Dahlberg, Lucy Clarkson, Piero Salussolia, Ed Arenas, Carla Riccitelli, Maxidus, Michella Mainoni, Valentine Demy, Fabrizio Corona, Christina Mian, Ilona Staller etc. Mondo boys take the music credits of the series, while the lead editor credits go to Jack Gravina.
The docuseries’ first episode’s intro palette is enough to make your mouth go wide open in shock. The entire limited series’ content was shown in that small snippet that will build the viewers’ curiosity. Well, I personally paused the series right after the intro to make sense of what I actually saw. A dog with almost 500 million dollars funds started an empire loaded with estates, music groups, sex experiments, football teams, and pornstars – wait, what?
Right from the first episode to the last one, I had to keep pausing the series to knock myself because whatever was portrayed in it couldn’t get any worse. Literally, orgies, parties, drugs and other aspects were forced to be done by a group of people with regard to an experiment. Actually, is this series about the dog anymore? I wonder.

It was mindblowing to know how nobody bothered to do anything despite knowing Maurizio was going off-limits. If he thought he could be the next Sigmund Freud, I bet he could have because the man was close to becoming one by doing every possible nonsense to make sense. With the dog’s fund, he was the king of the empire who ruled and ruined a lot of people – exploitation at its utmost point.
Imagine a yacht, Madonna’s Miami mansion, business units, enterprises, porn actors, the Pisa football team and such were bought in Gunther’s name and yet the world never for once darned to know how that is even possible? The docuseries clearly shows how easily money can be exploited and excused in the name of Dog.
Honestly, a mini religion and cult were formed on behalf of Gunther though the members disagree on that point. Why would they all follow the “13 commandments” written by the late countess? Did the countess really write it? At this point, even if the hoax is proven, I can’t believe my eyes.
The backstory of the countess being friends with Maurizio’s mother and Maurizio being friends with the countess’s late son – everything felt too dramatic. However, they’re all true stories (maybe partially, who knows?). The four-part docuseries was extremely dirty and packed with nasty and awful dark secrets. Truth be told, I’m sure there’s a lot more to these stories, but this is sufficient.
Coming to the sexual experiments on the so-called pop group. What in the world? Why was Barry there acting like a researcher when he has no scientific knowledge (he himself admitted it)? What was Maurizio trying to build? Was he trying to recruit people who would do anything he said so that he could create a science-based cult? What was going on in his mind? As his ex-wife said, was he really depressed that he pushed his limits to find the root of happiness?
Should I talk about the dog because nothing about it was present except its backstory, 27 employees, personal chef and legacy. The dog is a poor thing that was lying around and playing with them all, unaware of the disturbing events happening in its name. Someone save the pooch from all the blames because I couldn’t believe the attorney said Gunther wanted to buy a ship – can dogs even speak?
The only good thing about this docuseries is the direction, DOP, music and the fantastic questions asked by the team. Even if the main guys behind the dog’s riches tried to shut their mouths, the interviewing crew members nagged them enough to spill the truth. Whether the answers were cooked or half-baked, hearing them reminiscing their past felt true. Moreover, watching the old video clips and pictures of all the featured people made the story honest.
Gunther’s Millions Final Verdict
I would never ever re-watch the docuseries for personal reasons. There were disturbing contexts present that indeed blinded the people. No matter how offensive the content, the sex experiments and other problematic situations were, it was and still is ongoing, and nobody would question that. Even if they did, there’s always a way out because the dog will be pointed at as the cause of everything. Poor canine.
Coming to the main point: Is the docuseries worth the watch? Yes, because you will learn how terrible and atrocious people can be. This isn’t a fictitious story hence you’ll be experiencing questions popping into your mind, from time to time. Even worse, you might also pause the show at times to take a deep breath and contemplate what the deuce is going on.
