Gulmohar Ending Explained
In the film, the Batra family is seen having a get-together before they move to their new house and at the party, the matriarch – Kusum Batra reveals that she has bought a house in Pondicherry instead and wishes to celebrate Holi in the Gulmohar villa before moving. This comes as a shock to her son Arun Batra, who was already not in favour of his own son Aditya moving out with his wife Divya.
But as a filial son, he accepts everything his mother says. Meanwhile, his relationship with Aditya is rather on bad terms. He is working on his startup which is based on an app and isn’t able to earn anything. He & Divya has decided to stay in a house of their own but with only Divya earning, he feels anxious about moving but also feels resentful enough to get away from the family.
The youngest daughter Amrita/Ammu is also dealing with relationship issues with her boyfriend Arun. At first, what looks like a simple argument turns into something else when Ammu is seen confessing her love to her friend Deepika. Simultaneously, we also get to know that Arun was actually adopted by Kusum and her late husband Prabhakar after having three miscarriages.

When Ammu confesses to Deepika, she is seen by her grandmother who comforts her that it’s okay to love who she wants. She further shares her own story of how she couldn’t go to medical college, so she moved to Pune and met the singer Supriya Palekar and formed a romantic relationship. But she wasn’t sure of following it through & went back home and married her late husband in Jamshedpur.
But she had three miscarriages while trying for a baby and when she was sitting in the hospital, a newborn baby was kept beside her. On asking, it turned out that the baby was found in the parking lot and has no parents. That’s when she decides to adopt and that baby turns out to be Arun Batra. This explains why his paternal uncle Sudhakar wasn’t really fond of him.
Meanwhile, Sudhakar sends his driver to fetch the house papers and while looking for them in Kusum’s room, Arun’s wife Indu finds the will of his father. It states that the house will belong to paternal uncle Sudhakar and his son Kamal, leaving Arun out of it all on the basis that he was not his own blood.

This news shatters Arun as he was trying to save a house that was never his and calls the extended family to read the will. While Sudhakar agrees to it since he had signed on it as a witness, everyone else is shocked and doesn’t want to follow the will. It leads to a fight between mother and son, leading Arun to drive away in his car to a hotel.
Indu comes to find him at the hotel and there he shares that he has actually found his biological father. The roadside dhaba, which Arun visits every day is actually run by his father. He takes her there and decides to finally meet him. Although he doesn’t reveal that he is the son that was abandoned but still asks him about his kids and realises that they didn’t want to raise a kid in poverty.

In order to turn things right, Kusum also gives the papers of the property to Sudhakar and decides to cut all ties with him. Aditya also decides to instead take up a job in his cousin’s company and goes for an interview. But on asking if he will leave his startup dreams completely, he couldn’t comply and is interrupted by Divya to follow his dreams.
Amrita also confesses everything to Ankur and has her performance with the band. Meanwhile, Jeetendra leaves the Batra house when he gets slapped by Arun after fighting with contractor Irfan. Reshma seeks Irfan’s help to send Jeetu a letter, confessing her love which makes him come back one last time for Holi.
In the end, Arun also comes back home and is grateful to have a mother like Kusum. Everyone is seen celebrating Holi when one of Kusum’s acquaintances tells her that their favourite singer Supriya Palekar is currently living in Pondicherry. This thing is caught by Amrita and explains why Kusum had decided to move there specifically.
