Griselda Teaser: Sofia Vergara Takes Charge as ‘the Godmother’ of the Underworld

Sofia Vergara will be stepping into the shoes of ‘the Godmother’ of the underworld in her upcoming American crime drama series, and Netflix has revealed the first full-fledged look at the show in the Griselda teaser. Releasing on September 21, 2023, the teaser trailer of the miniseries directed by Andrés Baiz and produced by Eric Newman and Vergara herself merely grants us a brief sneak peek into the world of crime that’ll soon be conquered by Sofia’s portrayal of the eponymous real life notorious cocaine trafficker.

The Modern Family alumni has switched lanes from her comedy roots to come back strong as an ambitious Colombian businesswoman. However, the series won’t just be focussed on the transactional aspect of the underworld and how Blanco established one of the most powerful cartels, it will also lead by example, telling us Griselda’s life story as a devoted mother. Navigating through different pages of business and family in the book called life, the show is going to shower us with the titular character’s undeniable charm atop a lethal landscape.

Expected to have 6 episodes, the limited series has been created by NARCOS and NARCOS: Mexico team. Luis Balaguer also serves as one of the executive producers of the show under the banner of Latin World Entertainment. This show’s name has been in the air since November 2021, but the Griselda Netflix run is finally on track and will hit the streamer in early 2024.

Catch Griselda Blanco, a “woman of substance come back to life in Vergara’s skin. The teaser presents her as the only woman standing tall in a trade predominantly led by men, and as they await to find out the one in charge, the Emmy and Golden Globe nominated actress finds centre stage as the intimidating “Black Widow” or “Cocaine Godmother” leading the cocaine-based drug trade.

Vergara last appeared in Germany’s Next Top Model Season 18 as a guest judge and voiced the character of Dolores the Couch in the 2023 American comedy film Strays. Apart from her playing the drug queen pin, other cast members of the upcoming 2024 series, reportedly listed by Netflix, are Vanessa Ferlito, Juliana Aidén Martinez Alberto Guerra, Alberto Ammann, Christian Tappan and others.
