– Good Morning Veronica Season 2 Review Does Not Contain Spoilers –

Good Morning Veronica season 1 ended on a cliffhanger, and we knew that this one was coming, right? A few months after the end of the first season, season 2 starts with Veronica back on the field trying to figure out who destroyed her life – who is this mafia that has their fingers in everything?

What made the first season so gripping was the life of a woman stuck in chaos and the question of whether or not she will come out of this alive. You were fearful for Janete and fearful of Claudio. It was a horrible situation for everyone involved, and Veronica’s mafia backstory added an extra layer of mystery to an already mysterious story.

Good Morning Veronica 2 pushes us right into the lap of the mafia and its dubious head Mathias. He, well, is an abuser as well, but of a different kind. He has that calm aura about him, but you realise that there’s something hidden underneath that good guy exterior. He’s a great antagonist, sure, but, to be honest, Claudio seemed more possible, more relatable and thus, more horrifying.

As we jump back and forth from Veronica to Angela, Matias’s daughter, you lose a lot of the interesting and thrilling bits of the first season. Season 2, in order to go big or go home, gets a bit too big for us to actually be engrossed in the storyline. The first few episodes, especially, are very dull and when it does eventually pick up a little, it never reaches that gut-wrenching tension and horror of the first season.

The more Veronica uncovers the filth that is Matias, the more difficult her life gets as well. And, unlike the last season, you don’t feel that much of an emotional connection with her character or what she endures as she tries to uncover this mafia network. Again, you sat at the edge of your seat previously because you felt something Janete and, by extension, for Veronica.

Unfortunately for Good Morning Veronica season 2, the series, in spite of its horrible revelations and insinuations, doesn’t provide that amount of shock that you’d expect from the second season. I would also come to wonder what the point was of another season – it’s not like the mafia was that big a deal or an all-encompassing element of the first story.

However, there’s one single extremely creepy and disgusting aspect in the story that will horrify you. I won’t spoil what that is because it makes the main point of season 2, but it’s just so rapey and anxiety-inducing that you will be forced to be horrified, maybe just a little bit more so, because who likes watching this happen in front of your eyes so casually?

Good Morning Veronica season 2 makes some very subtle nods to the first season; however, that ties up the two quite well. You understand a lot through these small scenes, and it makes everything make sense. Also, there’s a very small mention of an eating disorder in there that they don’t really get into too well. I guess it makes sense, thanks to what the character goes through, but it just feels a bit forced.

Summing Up: Good Morning Veronica Season 2

Either way, Good Morning Veronica season 2 is a rather unwanted entry in the series, which should’ve just ended with its excellent first season. It showcases another shocking story of abuse, corruption and violence, but it just feels so impersonal and over-the-top that it stops being relatable and, thus, stops being as horrifying and fear-inducing as you’d expect it to be.

All in all, the second season is rather bland and unnecessary and a rather sad abused child.

Good Morning Veronica is streaming on Netflix.

  1. It wasn’t as intense, but again left a cliffhanger about the 3rd brother, Anita’s killer, threat to Lila & will Veronica put her life & family back together? Give us another season to dig out all the rats & tie up loose ends, clear some of Veronica ‘s false accusations & get her in a better psychology place. Give her a new career or pass her detective exam, do something with the new orphanage. Still a lot of material.

  2. Typical Entertainment Industry messages. Police Bad, Half relationships gay, religion evil. Good writers should be able to come up with a different theme. Shame on you. Pitiful
