BTS’ Kim Namjoon aka RM recently came under hot water after he shared Frank Ocean’s song Bad Religion on his social media. After he shared the song in his Instagram story on August 16, 2023, it caused an uproar on social media and soon the quote “RM Apologise to Muslims” began trending on X (formerly Twitter). Days after the incident, the BTS member recently addressed the controversy in his Weverse on Wednesday (August 30, 2023).
For the uninitiated, the Frank Ocean song shared by RM was released in 2012 and has been known for exploring the theme of unrequited love amid religious struggles. The song has been a topic of debate over its controversial lyrics, which many consider to be potentially Islamaphobic. In his recent Weverse live, the BTS rapper opened up about the controversy and refused to apologise.

Kim Namjoon Refuses to Apologise for Bad Religion Controversy
While addressing the controversy in his recent live, BTS RM said that he didn’t insult a religion. He further added that he had no intention or purpose to insult a religion. Namjoon spoke about respecting every belief and every religion. He added that he has been aware of the discussions happening on his Instagram and stated that he had no purpose or intention to insult religion and stated that it’s a song. He further said that he was not apologising.
In the same live video, RM tried to speak to fans with honesty and asked BTS ARMY to believe him. He stated that he knows his limits and that he is telling his truth. He added that while he couldn’t convince and persuade every person, he stressed that he was being honest with his fans and that he couldn’t lie to ARMYs.
The BTS leader’s response has now been going viral on social media. Several ARMYs took to X (Twitter) to say that they are proud of the way the rapper has handled the controversy. Several fans appreciated his honesty and the way he clarified his stance. There have also been netizens who have been questioning why only the K-pop artist has been held responsible for sharing a song that, despite being controversial, is available on all streaming platforms and is st heard by several people.
