After the untimely death of her father, Carrie is pushed into public high school, which for a few teenagers can be an intimidating personal story in itself. For Carrie, it becomes darker as she is suddenly forced to navigate the ecosystem of public high school while dealing with a viral bullying scandal and the cruelty and pressure of social media.
This is not simply Carrie being in the rabbit hole of social media; the modern world is built into the machinery of the story. Humiliation has receipts, bad moments are recorded, and cruel jokes become content while Carrie has no idea how to survive it all.

The version feels less like a nostalgic resurrection and more like a reminder that some of King’s most disturbing ideas did not age out.
