Dune Part 2 Trailer: Timothée Chalamet Brings Scorching Intensity to Arrakis

Denis Villeneuve is back with the second instalment of his science-fiction fantasy saga based on the book of the same title, and the Dune Part 2 trailer is here to give fans a first look at the film releasing this week. This instalment will star some of the biggest names in the industry, including Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, Javier Bardem and Léa Seydoux, alongside many others.

The director Denis Villeneuve and Jon Spaihts join the crew as screenplay writers alongside producers Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Patrick McCormick and Tanya Lapointe. The legendary music producer Hans Zimmer also joins the crew, while Greig Fraser comes back to the franchise as the cinematographer. In this edition of the film, Paul Atreides becomes the reluctant leader of a group rallying against the House Harkonnen.

It begins with Paul and Chani speaking about bringing water to Arrakis. He explains the nature of water, the way there is no way to reach its bottom. Chani absolutely cannot believe that, but that is Paul’s vision for the planet. His father may have died, but the vision with which he came to Arrakis is still alive. While there may have been many players in the story last time, there have been more added this time. Pugh joins as Princess Irulan, who has been tasked with documenting the Atreides empire as if it has fallen.

However, suspicions are rising to see whether their successor is still alive and still making waves as he did last time. We get a first look at Butler’s Feyd-Rautha as well. The Harkonnen nephew but also the conniving, bloodthirsty relative of Vladimir, ready to skin the Atreides empire down if it means he can secure his position in the court. While Leto Atreides didn’t believe in revenge, perhaps his son should, considering the enemies gathering around the planet.

This is also the time we see Paul try to become the Muad’dib that people were expecting, and that means passing tests that the Arrakians have devised to measure worthiness. It is in Paul’s blood to be the Kwisatz Haderach, the messiah of Arrakis, that will save the planet. If the last movie showed that he was always meant to be in Arrakis, his body attuned to the customs, then this movie is proof that he is ready to lead it.

Harkonnen must go down. His tax liabilities, and his brutality have been causing havoc across the galaxy. If he was expecting the Arrakians to stay down, he picked the wrong time because Paul has been mobilising people and has even built an army who would do anything he asked because of the power and the responsibility he wields for this planet. Alongside him, we have Chani, who is ready to be his general, his north star amongst all this chaos. If nothing, he wants Arrakis to be livable for Chani.

In case anyone was wondering, Paul was incredibly good at his tests. This time, we may even get to see more of the politics that plague this galaxy. Princess Irulan may be the linchpin in the conflict that might bring Arrakis or Harkonnen to its knees.
