Drake, a Canadian rapper and singer known for hits like God’s Plan, Nice for What, and In My Feelings, took to Instagram Stories on Monday (August 1) to announce he had tested positive for COVID. This led to a devastating halt of October World Weekend that was scheduled from July 28 and August 1.
He also mentioned that the Young Money Reunion show scheduled for 1 August is being rescheduled to the soonest date possible. He further added that he will keep everyone posted about his health and will share the new dates for the concert as soon as he has it locked. He wished everyone to stay safe and hopes to give back everything he got on stage, except of course COVID.
The first two nights of October World Weekend featured performances from Chris Brown, Lil Baby and a surprise appearance from Nelly Furtado. Drake even joined the singer onstage to perform her smash hit I’m Like a Bird. After enjoying the two days of the concert, fans were awaiting to see Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Lil Wayne host a Young Money reunion on the same stage.
However, fans will have to wait for the confirmation of new dates to see the three stars together on stage. Drake had big plans for the return of his OVO Fest. He had earlier announced that he was currently working on bringing OVO Fest around the world in 2023 for the 10th Anniversary. Thus, the mini concert in the form of October World Weekend was formed to turn up the city.
Apart from the headliners, other performing artists included Choclair, Frank-N-Dank, Keshia Chanté, K-Os, Glenn Lewis, Maestro French Wes, Rascalz, In Essence, Jully Black, Saukrates, Kardinal Offishall, and Shawn Desman. In fact last month Drake become the soloist with the most Billboard Hot 100 top five hits in history (29, tied with The Beatles).
