-Divorce Attorney Shin Episode 2 Review and Recap Contains Spoilers-
Episode 2 continues the divorce case of radio host Lee Seo-jin which has now been taken to court. We see that Shin Sung-han visits her in the hospital where Hyeon-u is admitted & asks why she wants his custody. She replies that she fears he will end up in the same situation as her if left with her husband. Sung-han empathises with her answer & replies that she shouldn’t worry about it since they will definitely win & also get an equal division in the assets.
Coming back to the present day, in the courtroom defendant Sung-han questions the plaintiff if they have even asked the son, whom he wants to live with, before assuming everything on his behalf. The dad replies that his son surely wants to live with him. Shin counters it by reading Hyeon-u’s diary entry which says that he is in pain due to his dad & so is his mom.
In the flashback we see Shin meeting up with Hyeon-u who shares how his mom often stands barefoot on the balcony as if considering whether to die or not. He further asks if Shin understood why he threw his dad’s phone to the wall. To which he replies that no matter what, the painful memories will stay & it’s up to Hyeon-u to move on from them & that’s also one of the reasons why Shin listens to trot music – to uplift his mood when painful memories take over him.

Sung-han also asks the boy if he searched for his mum’s video or if someone showed it to him. While he doesn’t exactly reply but we suspect that someone showed him. While in the courtroom, he calls the dad for questioning & asks if he is the one that showed his son the video. It shocks Seo-jin, who looks horrified at her husband. The dad angrily agrees to show him the video, when the son said that he wants to live with his mother.
This angers Seo-in so much that she slaps him across the face & due to imminent rage, ends ups passing out. She finds herself in the hospital upon waking up, with Sung-han sitting at her side. She urgently asks the nurse to remove the IV drips & hurries back home to her son. But before going Sung-han informs her that they won the case – which means she got custody, along with divided assets.
At her house, she cooks food for Hyeon-u and they have dinner together. He asks, with whom he will be living and where is his dad. Seo-jin informs that they will live together & dad is at a hotel, for now. She further kneels down in front of him & asks for forgiveness. Both of them end up crying & hugging each other.

Meanwhile, Shin Sung-han doesn’t look too happy even when he won the case. He starts drinking soju in a wine glass paired with canned tuna & plays a trot song to uplift his mood. Soon the doorbell rings & we see his friends Jang Hyeong-geun and Jo Jeong-sik at the door. They come in to cheer him up by drinking together, and singing. Also, we get to know that Jeong-sik is also going through a divorce which hasn’t been settled yet.
The next day while going to his office, Sung-han is stopped by a cleaning lady, who asks him if it costs a lot to get a divorce. We further see her life story how her family has been living under her mother-in-law’s roof and the lady has to work all day to make money. Yet the mother doesn’t treat her well & does the same behaviour to her granddaughters as well.
It looks like the family is going through a financial crisis, as the father’s business has gone down & they had to move in with his mother. However, the father is not able to say anything to the mother who treats his wife & kids badly. One night she starts hitting the youngest daughter & this angers the wife, so she hits the mother back. This might become attorney Shin’s next divorce case.

Shin is also seen visiting one of his music students, who gives him a bottle of wine as a parting gift. However, he claims that he has stopped drinking wine but still accepts it to give to his friends. In his office, Seo-jin also brings him a bottle of wine as gratitude & comments how almost all his grapes are filled, except one.
Later in the evening Shin & Hyeong-geun are seen waiting for Jeong-sik at a restaurant but he is a bit late. In the meanwhile, Hyeong-geun brings up the subject of the grapes & asks if he will fight that man when all grapes are filled. While we don’t know whom they are referring to but names like Ju-hwa & Gi-yeong come up with imagery of a presumed accident.
They refer to Shin’s painful past memory & could be the reason behind his career change. On the hand, we are introduced to a new character named Yeon-ju who wants to settle the matter of Shin & sends a man to visit him soon. While Shin in his drunk state is seen playing the piano under the bridge & we get a glimpse of him as an established pianist.

Summing Up: Divorce Attorney Shin Episode 2
The case of Lee Seo-jin ended in the way I had predicted in the last review. Since she is presumably the female lead, we will be seeing more of her as Shin told her that the husband might be suing her for something else soon. Compared to the pilot episode, the second episode was a little laid back but we got to know more about Shin & his traumatic past.
Two more OSTs were also unveiled in today’s episode which sounded amazing but isn’t released officially yet. While the title track has been unveiled, which is titled Be Back by Ha Hyun-woo.
Divorce Attorney Shin is currently streaming on Netflix.
