Diary of a Ditched Girl Review
In this Netflix comedy-drama series, Amanda finds dating in Malmö to be an impossible ordeal amidst unfulfilling sexual partners and unavailable emotions. The series, much like others in the genre, is warm and sweet, mostly thanks to a very watchable Carla Sehn, whose wide-eyed naivety makes this less of an annoying ordeal than one might imagine.
There have been too many similar shows on the platform lately, trying to make us relate to the average person’s loneliness and desperation for human connection. Diary of a Ditched Girl, much like all of them, is strikingly similar and doesn’t give us anything remotely new. If you’ve seen even one of them before, you’ve probably seen this one too. However, I think it’s the performances that separate this drama from the rest in some way. Sehn, especially, is the lifeblood of the show, in my opinion, and she brings a warmth to the table that makes you want to root for her.

In other such shows, we usually see the protagonist to be so annoying that you are left to wonder how she is able to get any dates at all. They are clingy, snotty messes who constantly want to take from the world without giving anything back. However, it’s easy to like Amanda from the start, as, despite some clingy tendencies, she’s happy and a little absent-minded, making her the perfect candidate to lead such shows.

That being said, as mentioned previously, this show is just too predictable. If you like light-hearted shows about dating and relationships, it’s nice enough. However, story-wise, there’s nothing to truly write about. It’s almost too similar to other shows in the genre, and you will be able to predict where it’s going. There are a few sweet moments, particularly surrounding Amanda and her friends and family, but other than that, it’s like even the characters feel the exact same.

Regardless, it’s enjoyable for a quick, easy watch. Amanda can be a bit air-headed sometimes, but there always has to be a quirk with protagonists in shows like these. I guess it’s the lesser of the evils that we have seen before.
Final Thoughts

Diary of a Ditched Girl is fine for a light watch. Although it brings nothing new to the table, it’s warm and enjoyable and will leave you smiling more often than not, thankfully.
