Devil May Cry Season 1 Plot Overview

In Netflix’s Devil May Cry, we follow Dante, a cocky demon hunter doing menial jobs and killing superhuman creatures. However, his laidback life comes to an end when a mysterious terrorist-like figure called White Rabbit wreaks havoc, trying to break down the door between Earth and Makai and unleash hell. For this, he needs an ancient artefact connected to Dante’s father, a demon called Sparda.

Caught in a dangerous fight where everything is at stake, Dante must accept his demon powers and fight the battle between good and evil that hints at bigger issues at play. However, the ending leaves everything up in the air after the door is opened, setting up a dangerous precedent to be explored in season 2.

Towards the end of the show, we see Dante caught in a face-off against Rabbit’s army while Mary fights Rabbit himself. She finally recognises who he really is, which leaves her shocked and ashamed of herself for ruthlessly treating innocent demons in the past. However, Rabbit is not convinced and is hell-bent on destroying DARKCOM for what they did to his people. Right then, Dante arrives and saves Mary after fighting off Rabbit’s men, but this brawl ends with him getting the amulet while the Rabbit falls into the water with the sword.

Soon after, Baines arrives and asks about the amulet and the sword, only to be lied to about the two. Dante tells him that both the amulet and sword have disappeared with Rabbit, and tries to leave, only to have Baines command everyone to capture Dante because it is his blood that is needed to open the portal. Seeing this, Dante prepares to fight, only to have Rabbit return to the scene as a more powerful opponent.

Dante and Rabbit get into a more chaotic brawl when the latter returns in his new form, and soon Rabbit overpowers Dante. Meanwhile, Baines escapes with his men, leaving Dante and Mary to deal with the Rabbit. As Dante is pushed to the edge, Enzo comes to his rescue but ends up losing his life. This angers Dante as he takes up his demonic form only to make his last push before the Rabbit finally gets his blood and opens the portal that opens the doors for demons to enter the human realm. As Dante and Mary watch the demons enter their human realm and create chaos everywhere, they need to continue fighting Rabbit together and put a stop to this mess.

Will Dante Be Able to Close the Portal?

Dante once again takes up his demonic form and fights Rabbit, hitting his weak spot to try and get Sparda’s sword back. As he engages in battle with Rabbit, Mary gets her hands on her gun and aims for Rabbit’s weakness. At the most crucial moment, he finally takes a shot and ends Rabbit’s life. Dante then grabs Sparda’s sword from Rabbit, removes the amulet from it and puts an end to the chaos by closing the portal.

What Happens to Dante?

When everything finally settles down, Dante decides to go look for his brother, whom Rabbit told him is still alive. He proposes to Mary to join him in the search and moves forward, only to be backstabbed by Mary. Listening to Baines telling everyone how Dante can be dangerous for everyone because of his blood, she decides to capture Dante and hand him over to the higher-ups at DARKCOM. Dante is then put in a vessel where he is experimented on, while the amulet and sword are also hidden by the organisation.

What is Baines’s real Plan?

After Mary captures Dante, she is shocked to see a portal open up on one of the rooftops. There, Baines stands with the Rabbit’s machine and commands the jets to be prepared to launch an attack on the demon realm. Soon, the demon realm faces a brutal attack by the armed forces, and no one is left alive in the places where the portal is opened. As Baines happily shares the news with the world, soldiers are seen enjoying the brutality they are committing on innocents, children, and anyone who comes into their sight.

Will the Demons Ever be Saved?

Demons are soon killed and captured for experiments by humans, and they begin to lose hope for themselves. However, soon the prison is broken open, and their saviour arrives, who then changes into a human form. This is none other than Dante’s twin brother, Vergil, who was thought to be dead for a very long time. He is ready to lead the war against humans and free demons, but what will be his plan?
