Demon Slayer Season 4 Episode 1 Review: Movie Watchers Might Be Disappointed

Demon Slayer Season 4 Episode 1 Review: The 4th season of the much anticipated Demon Slayer is finally here and we are absolutely hyped for the 1st episode. Let us see how the 1st episode went in detail below.

Demon Slayer Season 4 Overview

Demon Slayer Season 4 Episode 1 Review Movie Watchers Might Be Disappointed

Demon Slayer is a popular manga series created by Koyoharu Gotouge. It was serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump from February 2016 to May 2020 and later compiled into 23 volumes.

The upcoming season of Demon Slayer will adapt material from the 15th and 16th volumes of the manga, specifically chapters 128–136. Scheduled to debut on May 12, 2024, with a special one-hour episode, it has been licensed by Aniplex of America for streaming on Crunchyroll outside of Asia. The season’s opening theme song, “Mugen”, will be performed by My First Story and Hyde. There has been no information regarding the ending theme yet.

Episode 1 of Demon Slayer Season 4 can also be called Episode 1 Kimetsu no Yaiba: Hashira Geiko-hen (鬼滅の刃 柱稽古編).

I have tried my best to keep the review as spoiler-free as possible, but there are certain elements that I had to mention to give proper feedback.

Demon Slayer Season 4 Episode 1 Review and Recap – Plan To Defeat Muzan

Those who, like me, have gone to theatres to enjoy the new Demon Slayer movie a few days back, are already aware of what goes on here. We are not given any extra material in the 1st episode, so, for a few of us, the main enjoyment will start from the next episode. However, it’s always better to have a recap before continuing any show, so I am not at all complaining. I loved this episode as much as I appreciated it when I first saw it.

For those who are seeing this for the first time, this will be a great experience for you as it has everything. It starts with some epic fights where we witness the power of Obanai and Sanemi in full action. They prove why they are revered and display skills that are beyond impressive. Not just them, but keeping the concept of this season’s storyline in mind, we can expect to see every Hashira’s power, even the strongest of all, Gyomei Himejima.

As things are more complicated than ever, Gyomei decides to launch the gruelling training of demon slayers in full throttle, under the tutelage of the Hashiras themselves. Sadly, Giyu opted out of this plan for unknown reasons, but we might see him join later anyway.

But just because a serious situation is going on, we are not devoid of comedy. The presence of Zenitsu automatically heightens the mood and increases the comedic elements, especially when he finally meets his beloved Nezuko-chan under the sun. Even Inosuke is as loud and violent as ever, but once you see them, you realise just how empty it felt in the previous season without them.

Other than this, we really can not say one bad thing about the animation, as it never disappoints. Plus, the background music in every scene is just an absolute masterpiece that adds to the overall mood. Even the opening them for this season is a good one that promises an epic journey in the future.

Verdict

I am reviewing this episode from the perspective of someone who has not seen this before and on that account I loved it. It perfectly sets the tone for the upcoming episodes, making us anticipate all the good and dangerous bits.

My personal favourite scene will have to be when the voice actor of Aizen from Bleach voices the messenger crow of Kagaya. Listening to one of my favourite characters as a crow was a peculiar experience.
