Happy Birthday David Schwimmer: 8 Times Ross in Friends Was Relatable AF!

Today is the birthday of one of the most loved and relatable characters of the popular sitcom, Friends. In Ross, we saw a friend, a lover, and a sibling where often he was in similar situations where the viewer could also see themselves being in. Inarguably David Schwimmer did justice to the role and became a fan favourite.

Some of the Most Relatable David Schwimmer aka Ross Moments on Friends

1. “I’m FINE”

In the scene of Friends, when Ross walks in on Rachel and Joey kissing, his entire world turns upside down. Seeing one of his best friends being in an intimate relationship with his ex-girlfriend reacted the same way any of us might, trying to stay calm and act mature. But that does not work out because things tend to spill out in some way and for Ross, getting drunk did the trick. His attempt to act normal was met with utter failure in the end.

2. “You ate my sandwich?”

As Ross was going through the worst time of his life after his wife refused to stay with him a few minutes after his wedding because he said Rachel’s name at the alter instead of his to-be wife’s, Emily, the handmade turkey sandwich by his sister Monica, was the only good thing going on in his life at that moment. When he found out that his senior not only ate the sandwich but also threw some of it out made Ross as furious as ever. He lashed out; frankly, most viewers could immensely relate to his situation.

3. “GET OFF MY SISTER!”

As Ross was finally getting his life together and showing his new apartment to his boss, he witnesses his worst nightmare from across the window as he looks out. Looking at his sister Monica getting intimate with his best friend Chandler leaves him furious with lots of questions. But things soon calm down when he learns that Chandler is in love with Monica which makes him excited and happy for the both of them. Viewers with siblings could relate to the situation in more ways imaginable.

4. Ross’ sudden British accent

When Ross was asked to be a guest lecturer at NYU, he felt the pressure to stand out in order to please the students and his fellow professors. He could not think of anything else but to suddenly pick up a British accent which also was not very compelling but nonetheless he continued. It was hilarious to watch him struggle. In many ways, the viewers could relate to the situation because everyone often feels the need to excel in order to be appreciated.

5. “I’ll show you how well I flirt!”

When Ross finally finds someone that he seems to be interested in and tries to get her number is one of the most hilarious episodes in Friends. The way he spirals from talking about pizza to gas in under 5 minutes is a talent in itself. It must have happened to most viewers when they get nervous around their crush which is what makes Ross so relatable.

6. “I would like to make a toast”

The episode in Friends where Ross gets drunk and makes the most elaborate toast is one of the funniest episodes in the series. His attempt to try to stay normal in a situation involving the love of his life and his best friend is uncomfortable yet hilarious to witness. David Schwimmer does an incredible job at pulling off the scene. Most viewers were reminded of their own drunk stories where they also acted impulsively.

7. When Ross could not remember all 50 states

Professor Ross Geller always thought he was the smartest one in the room among his friends, little did he know that he would be hit with reality one day. During thanksgiving when Chandler made everyone play a game to name all 50 states in under 6 minutes and Ross thought the game was very easy until he could not name all the 50 states and struggled the entire night to do so.

8. Ross getting scared of needles

Ross unknowingly ate a kiwi which causes him an allergic reaction that swells his throat and tongue. An anti-allergic shot is the only way to make it better but he refuses to go to the doctor because of his fear of needles. With the help of his sister Monica as his support system, he went to the doctor and took the shot. It’s funny to think that a grown man will still be afraid of needles but more people could relate to him than usual.
