If you are looking for movies like The Killer, you have landed at the right spot! David Fincher is a name that has grown synonymous with some insane thriller and action films and, the director’s latest release just affirms his position in the same. The 2023 film is written by Andrew Kevin Walker and is based on the graphic novel series of the same name by Alexis Matz Nolent and illustrated by Luc Jacamon. It stars Michael Fassbender in the titular role alongside Arliss Howard, Charles Parnell, Kerry O’Malley, Sala Baker, Sophie Charlotte and Tilda Swinton.
After arriving on Netflix recently and garnering some positive reviews, there is no doubt that the film is slowly becoming popular amongst viewers. But, this is not the only Fincher film where you have a grey character in the centre around whom the story revolves. Looking closely at Fincher’s filmography there are some solid films similar in nature that demand attention. So here we are with a list if you are looking for more movies like The Killer!
David Fincher Movies Like The Killer to Watch Next
Seven (Se7en)
One of the earliest and most popular films that established Fincher as a reputed director is the 1995 film titled Se7en. A crime thriller at its core, this one is also written by Walker. The film revolves around two cops who are set to catch a serial killer who is committing murders based on the seven deadly sins. The cast features Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kevin Spacey and John C. McGinley.
Although the film did not fare well on its release, it is presently regarded as one of the best in the genre as the style, aesthetics and story of the film has only aged fine like wine with time. You can watch it now on Amazon Prime Video.
Fight Club
Another Brad Pitt movie to add to this list, out of all that appear this might be the closest to The Killer because of how ambiguous the plot is and how beautifully the climax is executed. On the surface, it is just about two guys starting a club and a woman who comes between them but, the various themes and subplots that range within the storyline are worth looking out for. Just don’t expect anything when you watch this film because whatever you are expecting is not it. It is based on Chuck Palahniuk’s novel of the same name and stars Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter in major roles alongside Pitt. It is available now on Amazon Prime Video.
Zodiac
This 2007 mystery thriller is based on the non-fiction book on the infamous Zodiac Killer. It also features a remarkable cast that includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Mark Ruffalo, and Robert Downey Jr. with Anthony Edwards, Brian Cox, Elias Koteas, Donal Logue, John Carroll Lynch, Chloë Sevigny, Philip Baker Hall and Dermot Mulroney. It is a neo-noir and is so Fincher-like in its storytelling that we can only encourage you to watch this film and get obsessed with the mystery of the real-life titular killer which to date remains unsolved. Stream it now on Amazon Prime Video.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
You can only have a genius turn the brilliant Stieg Larsson’s book into a movie. One can only rely on Fincher to deliver the story with the pressure and ease that he does. A long, unbeatable mystery thriller that might just be the most underrated film by the director, this 2011 piece is exceptional when it comes to the acting performances showcased, the screenplay, the direction and the cinematography. It stars Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara in the leading roles and tells the story of a journalist named Blomkvist and his investigation of a girl who disappeared 40 years ago with the help of a computer hacker named Lisbeth Salander. You can watch it on Zee5 and Amazon Prime Video.
Gone Girl
No shade on Gillian Flynn but, Gone Girl might just be the only book to film adaptation where I like the film better. Not because the story is contained better in a film but, because of how accurately it is told that it almost feels out of Flynn’s head onto our screens, all cooked by David Fincher. A psychological thriller, this 2014 movie stars Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry and Carrie Coon. It is about a husband becoming the prime suspect and how the story unfolds when his wife goes missing. The movie is available on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV+.
