Dandadan Season 2 Episode 6: Still

The episode kicks off with Seiko, Manjiro, Mr. Mantis Shrimp, Chiquitita, Momo, and Okarun taking part in a ritual aimed at freeing Jiji from the grip of the Evil Eye. Despite their earnest prayers, the ritual has little to no effect. The Evil Eye remains firmly attached to Jiji, and viewers learn just how formidable this spirit truly is. As a mountain spirit, the Evil Eye chooses only those with strong spiritual energy, like Jiji, as hosts. This makes it nearly impossible to separate the two permanently.

Still, there is one peculiar workaround. When Jiji comes into contact with hot water, he returns to his normal self. But with even a single drop of cold water, the Evil Eye resurfaces. It’s a strange and delicate balance, and Seiko takes extreme care to keep Jiji safe from any cold water exposure.

That said, the episode isn’t solely focused on Jiji. There’s also noticeable development in the relationships between the characters. Aira, in particular, shows significant growth. She’s no longer the overbearing attention-seeker she once appeared to be. Instead, her blooming friendship with Momo is both surprising and heartwarming.

Perhaps the most touching element of the episode is the subtle but unmistakable evolution of Momo and Okarun’s relationship. Their feelings for each other are no longer a secret; both seem aware of their mutual crushes, and neither is trying too hard to hide it anymore. Their dynamic brings a refreshing sense of sincerity, and it’s easily one of the most endearing romantic developments in recent shonen anime.

Lastly, the episode introduces a new layer of tension with the Kito family. Once merely unsettling, they now reveal themselves to be far more threatening than initially assumed. Still, with all this unfolding, the focus remains on helping Jiji regain control and peace.

Dandadan Season 2 Episode 6 Review

The Evil Eye suddenly comes out, but that is when Momo manages to throw hot water on him, and Jiji comes back. This is truly a frightening situation because this can happen anytime, and to counter this, the Hayashi musicians arrive. These musicians dress as a rock band, and they can’t really sense spirits. However, their performance is the real deal as they have the power to echo their sounds into the spiritual world.

Their performance starts, and it is absolutely electrifying as they manage to summon spirits in hoards. The song was also really good and very catchy, and we witnessed the Evil Eye genuinely suffering from it. But just the way Dandadan tries to incorporate emotional elements out of nowhere, here as well, we see an example of it. Jiji refuses to let the Evil Eye get completely killed as he laments that a kid who just wanted to play will again die without even achieving that dream.

Needless to say, after this declaration, Seiko decides to welcome Evil Eye into her family, and we get to see a very heartfelt moment. Now, Okarun and everyone else are constantly watching Gigi and making sure the evil eye does not come out whenever it wants. In the meantime, both Okarun and Momo decide to get stronger so that they can keep Evil Eye at bay. The last half of this episode focuses more on the lighthearted tone as we see Momo trying to get a part-time job.

I absolutely loved today’s episode as the first half was really cool and also emotional. However, the last half was very cute, and it reinforced the fact that Okarun and Momo are very much into each other. I cannot wait for the next episode, as we will get to see Okarun’s reaction to Momo serving him.
