Dandadan Episode 4 Recap

The stage is set for a thrilling final clash between the Turbo Granny and our protagonists, Okarun and Momo. They brace themselves to enter the eerie tunnel where Okarun previously encountered an unusual loss. Buoyed by a newfound strength, Momo expresses confidence, jokingly wondering if she’s now strong enough to take down the formidable Granny without needing her to vacate the city. But the sight of the formidable apparition before them quickly humbles her, revealing just how much further she has to go.

And so, the season’s most intense battle begins, unleashing chaos. Alongside Turbo Granny, another spirit tied to the tunnel appears which is a massive crab-like entity that intervenes to aid Granny. During the skirmish, Okarun forces the Granny’s spirit to enter his body by targeting her most vulnerable spots, while Momo pulls out all the stops to get them both out of the city before things spiral further.

Initially, Momo considers challenging Granny to a game of tug of war, knowing Granny’s notorious pride when it comes to her speed. However, Granny tricks her by counting at an absurdly rapid pace, securing a sly victory. Now, Momo and Okarun must devise a plan to escape the clutches of these two immensely powerful spirits.

Today’s episode was a lot more emotionally driven than the previous ones. This is because we explore the dynamic connection between Momo and Okarun after the face-off against Turbo Granny. Okarun is visibly anxious about his new relationship status with Momo cause what should his reaction be when he meets her at school? Should he greet her like they are friends, or should he just pretend they do not know each other? He also remains worried whether it will be okay for him to be seen with her in school as he is the infamous loner otaku and she is a popular girl.

However, contrary to whatever he thought, Momo actually waited for him at the school gates and even came over to say hi by herself. It is clear that she doesn’t care what others say, and she indeed thinks of him as a dear friend now. Not only that, but even after they depart for their respective classes, both keep thinking about the other. Even at recess, they both go to look for each other but somehow miss. We, as the audience, witness just how much they pine for each other’s companies and think about one another’s opinions about themselves.

On top of that, they accidentally kiss, and this whole scenario is witnessed by Momo’s 2 friends. They make a big deal out of it and becoming flustered with the scenario, Momo unknowingly hurts Okarun. However, their bond gets stronger after Momo showcases just how supportive she can be when she means it.

But this was not all, as their problems are far from over because Okarun does not have his balls yet. It is a grave concern because after defeating Turbo Granny, he should have gotten all his treasures back. Now, the question remains whether Turbo Granny is actually eliminated or not.

Verdict

Dandadan Episode 5 Review

Today’s episode made me ship these two more than ever before. The way their relationship is progressing is not only sweet but also comforting and aspirational. These two have the potential of becoming one of the most well-developed and well-written shounen couples. Even though we did not see any action in this episode, it was great to slow down a bit and focus on character growth.
