Dandadan Episode 9 Recap

Aira transforms into a restrained yet powerful version of Acrobatic Silky, showcasing enough strength to hold her own against the Mantis Shrimp alien. However, when the battle becomes overwhelming, Okarun steps in to save the day—albeit in a less-than-dignified state, as he is completely naked. Despite his embarrassment, he fights valiantly, but the combined might of the Serpo Aliens and the Mantis proves to be a formidable challenge.

Just as the tide seems to turn against them, Momo arrives to tip the scales, unleashing her overwhelmingly powerful abilities. Adding to the chaos is Nessie, the creature that previously attacked Momo, now rampaging with destructive intent.

Okarun’s nudity throughout the episode adds a layer of comedic awkwardness, with his efforts to maintain a shred of modesty providing plenty of laughs. On top of that, the surreal moment when the Serpo Aliens force the Praying Mantis to evolve and then he sings a bizarre song about a Japanese businessman takes the absurdity to a whole new level.

Amid all the chaos and humour, the episode still manages to weave in heartfelt and organic romantic moments between the protagonists.

The most embarrassing moment for the trio is over, and now they must answer why they were all in a nude and semi-nude state within their school premise. Yes, the whole school is talking about Momo, Aira and Okarun, and they do not have anything to justify their situation. At one point, Aira even decides that she will put the entire blame on Momo, as it was she who first advised them to take off their clothes anyway. However, that does not happen because, finally, Aira gets some much-needed character development.

When she sees how readily and easily she can spread misinformation about Momo and just wash her hands off of the whole matter, Aira considers throwing her nemesis under the bus. But, she realises how inhumane that will be and even accepts the fact that she is the one who previously spread misinformation about Momo to the whole class. Aira definitely upgraded herself, and this change in her character made her much more likeable than before.

But, what was still unexpected was the sudden sob story that we received from the mantis shrimp alien that tried to kill our trio in the previous episode. Apparently, he has a sick son back home, and it is to provide him with medical care, he is doing all sorts of jobs and taking on dangerous roles on other planets. The whole segment was as ridiculous as funny, keeping the tone of Dandadan intact.

However, the highlight of this episode is the entry of another very important character who will be a game-changing addition to the cast. We are obviously left on a cliffhanger the moment we see him, but in those few moments, we are given enough context to know that the next few episodes will be dramatic.

Verdict

Dandadan Episode 10 Review

Today’s episode leaned heavily on world-building while still delivering plenty of laughs. My personal favourite scene is definitely the transportation of the cow.

Here, we mostly see comedic elements and know a bit more about aliens. The relationship between Momo and Okarun also flourishes in a very healthy manner, but that is something that is expected of this show now. I have to admit, Dandadan handles romance better than even the most dedicated romance anime.
