Crimes of the Future Reactions: Fans Are in Love With Kristen Stewart’s Immersive Performance

The 2022 Palme d’Or competitor Crimes of the Future was one film everyone has been looking forward to. Since the film received a six-minute standing ovation at the 75th Cannes Film Festival, Twitter has been buzzing with how good the film. Written and directed by David Cronenberg, the film marks Cronenberg’s return to the sci-fi, and horror genre since his 1999 work eXistenZ.

Produced by Robert Lantos, the film stars Viggo Mortensen, Léa Seydoux and Kristen Stewart in major roles alongside Don McKellar, Scott Speedman, Welket Bungué, Lihi Kornowski, Tanaya Beatty, Yorgos Karamihos, Yorgos Pirpassopoulos, Nadia Litz and Sozos Sotiris. Set in a futuristic world where humans have adapted to a synthetic environment, the film revolves around Mortensen’s character publicly showcases the metamorphosis of his organs in avant-garde performances and, other events that follow.

Fans are taken aback by the concept and narrative of this film but, it is Kristen Stewart’s immersive performance that has garnered a lot of praise and attention. One Twitter user wrote, “Kristen Stewart is GOOD in Crimes of the Future. We have to appreciate actors taking big swings and doing weird shit.” Another user tweeted: “Crimes of the Future was like a 8/10 but Kristen Stewart gets a 10/10.
