Navin picks up his cousin Prithvi and drops him off at his tuition master’s house. After a few hours, when Prithvi’s mother goes to pick Prithvi up, she realises that her son never came for tuition and is gone missing. Soon the police are involved, and the investigation starts. The first suspect is obviously Navin since he’s the one who supposedly dropped Prithvi. Navin reveals that he left Prithvi right at Shankar’s (tuition master) house’s entrance because the small kid said that he would walk and go.
Prithvi’s parents are highly disappointed in Navin. Police conclude Navin is the criminal since there is a family issue going on between them. When their grandfather died, his major share was written to Prithvi, and nothing was written in the will for Navin. This makes the police brutally hit Navin until he accepts the truth, but he is reluctant.

Meanwhile, the police also find Shankar as the suspect, but he strongly declines and yells at the cops. For the time being, he is left alone. Coming back to his house, Shankar is living with his wife, brother, sister-in-law, and their teenage son, Vivek. Shankar often gets mad and scolds Vivek for wasting his time playing games with his friends. As he has failed tenth grade twice, Shankar tries to correct him, which makes Vivek mad at him. Since Vivek’s parents are leeching off Shankar, the young boy feels helpless.
After a while, the gardener at Prithvi’s home spots his homework note lying beneath a tree. Police check on it and find a message written in Hindi demanding ten lakhs. This is when Prithvi’s father reveals that previously Shankar asked 15 lakhs loan, which he denied. The police get a search warrant because they believe Shankar could have murdered Prithvi due to the child’s father denying him the loan.

On searching his house, Prithvi’s lifeless body is found in the storeroom. Police arrest Shankar and his wife, Roopa, and start the investigation. During the investigation, the inspector tells a story about Shankar ill-treating his nephew Vivek which led him to attempt suicide. It is here Shankar shares a backstory of Vivek stealing the thousand rupees and that he punished him severely only to correct him.
Even when evidence is strong to conclude that Shankar and his wife killed Prithvi, the head inspector feels it off. Hence, he once again visits Shankar’s house and checks every spot. Then he brings Vivek to the station and asks him to write a statement. Later, it is found that the handwriting in Prithvi’s homework note is identical to Vivek’s.

Vivek is arrested, and he tells the truth. As he was extremely angry at Shankar, he wanted to plot a murder case on him. Hence he has been planning to kill Prithvi and lock him in the storage room since only Roopa has access to it. In order to get revenge on his uncle and aunty, who keep punishing him for his mistakes, a small child’s life ended.
Shankar, Roopa, and Navin are released, but they’re heavily traumatised after hearing the truth. The family of Prithvi are also shattered. Finally Vikrant Massey comes on-screen and concludes the episode.

Crimes Aaj Kal Episode 8: Final Thoughts
Episode 8 really stood out after the previous episodes of social media-based themes. The cast did a splendid job, the plot had its twists and the suspense factor didn’t die throughout the end. Though Vivek is an easy guess at the beginning, when the story proceeds, one’s mind tends to find other people as culprits. So great work on keeping the curiosity factor alive.
Vikrant Massey isn’t just speaking at the beginning/end of the episodes, but he gives a good introduction to the plot of the episode through mini-skits. Most of the hosts only yap; thus, it’s nice to see the different take Vikrant is giving.
