Classroom Of The Elite Season 2 Episode 11 Review- No Dog In The Fight

In all the hubbub surrounding the games and competition, it is quite easy to forget that we are dealing with literal teenagers here. No matter how they look or how grown up they try to act, they are kids with very little life experience and even less intellect. They might be smart, more so than most people you and I know, but they are reactive and hot-headed and known for making really rash decisions. We are dealing with 15-year-olds, which is something that puts a lot of this show into perspective.

Despite all of them being the same age and in the same class, the section disparity among them has caused them all to look extremely different from each other, so much so that they don’t feel like they’re all the same age. Class 1-D looks like the young upstart looking to take the old guard down; meanwhile, 1-A looks like an embodiment of the big and mighty, somebody who is too far up on the pecking order even to be touched. Then there is the mob crime family that Ryuuen the Dragon Boy is running in Class 1-C, which makes for a highly intriguing dynamic. Class 1-B is weirdly low key, but they are also sneaky in being that.

However much of a mob boss 15-year-old Ryuuen considers himself, this is still a school. You can not go waterboarding people no matter how much you hate them or need the information they possess. It is extremely awkward seeing a 15-year-old get tortured into submission, especially if that teenager is a girl who holds almost no power over the literal monsters holding her down. Come on, guys, what are we doing here? It was effective, but that was never in question. However, things like this break the viewer’s immersion and make them wonder what exactly they are watching.

This episode also featured a high point for the series- a meeting between Koenji and Ryuuen. With how aloof and plain weird Koenji acts, it was only natural that Ryuuen assumed that he had something to do with the mastermind behind Class 1-D’s success. However, Koenji isn’t the type to take things lying down. That much we know from watching the show’s first episode, which showcased his true colors that we had not seen since. He is a fascinating character, and he works very well with the cast that the show features regularly. More of him against anyone, whether it be Ryuuen or Ayanokoji, will be great.

This episode also featured some great use of lighting and animation to represent what some of the characters were feeling at a particular moment that happened towards the end of the episode. Torturing may or may not have been involved in that, but at least it looked pretty. The OST in this episode was also great and has been great throughout the season. When things like torture break the immersion of a viewer, the music and the animation are the ones which bring them back in.
Verdict
Classroom Of The Elite Season 2 Episode 11 was a highly enjoyable, if slightly off-putting, outing for the show. It has featured a surprisingly coherent story this season, something that will sadly come to an end soon.
