Classic Disney Shows of the Early 2000s We Just Couldn’t Move On From
Hannah Montana (2006)
Living two lives in one isn’t any easy task that can be handled by just anyone, but Miley Stewart made it all possible, of course with all the hassle that came along with it. She wasn’t a grown up like Clark Kent putting on a pair of glasses to camouflage with her surroundings, but she was a teen icon who made us all believe that you’re one step closer to turning your dreams into a reality if you’ve got a supportive family and the best bunch of friends around to fall back on.
Once she put that blonde Hannah Montana wig on, her songs became the soundtrack to most of our teenage lives, and have stayed with us for all this time.
The Suite Life of Zack and Cody (2005)
This show was just as iconic as it characters that most of its old viewers that still find it hard to choose their favourite one, especially since each one of them became an indispensable part of the show, and only together did they all make the sitcom comedy as big of a success as it was (and still is). Dylan and Cole Sprous didn’t just happen to become everyone’s favourite twin pair by chance back in the day.
Their comedic shenanigans as Zack and Cody at the Tipton Hotel became the talk of the town, while their mom, Kim Rhodes’ Carey, a lounge singer at the luxury hotel tried her best to play the role of the family’s breadwinner while tackling with the ever-rising complaints about the from the hotel manager, Philip Lewis’ Mr Moseby.
London Tipton’s (the fashion diva of the early 2000s, and also the daughter of hotel’s owner) (played by Brenda Song) unlikely, yet heartwarming friendship with Maddie (Ashley Tisdale), the employee working at the hotel’s candy counter also be came a highlight that universally raised the bar for friendships in general.
Wizards of Waverly Place (2007)
Alex’s (Selena Gomez) wizard family made it a point to prove that “Everything is not as it seems”. Embarking on an adventure through their human high school lives, the Russo siblings – Alex, Justin and Max – were actually busy preparing all this time to be picked as the next Family Wizard (some more than others). But as it always happens, the show takes the usual Disney route wherein the secret is outed to Alex’s best friend, Harper, who ends up becoming her partner in crime, whether she likes it or not.
That’s So Raven (2003)
Kim Possible (2002) – Animated
Here comes your average high school cheerleader, but guess what, her athleticism is also tied to her side gig of being a secret agent who’s saved the world on countless occasions. With her best friend – Ron, his pet Rufus and a fellow teenager – webmaster Wade, Kim Possible heads out on secret missions, which come easy. However, when it comes to dealing with the typical pressures of a teenager’s social life and school, her anxious sweating ensues.

Lizzie McGuire (2001)
Back when the representation of teenagers in school was still relatable (at least on Disney shows), Hilary Duff’s Lizzie McGuire catapulted as a pop culture icon. Even today, it’s really hard for old Disney era lovers to see the actor apart from her McGuire identity because she helped all of us feel seen and validated, especially everyone who was a clumsy middle-schooler, struggling to find their true friends – ones who didn’t have an ulterior agenda.
Phineas and Ferb (2007) – Animated
Summer and Phineas and Ferb’s grand inventions, followed by their sister, Candace’s habit of telling on them have but become synonymous for old Disney lovers. The show keeps coming out with various sequels and movies, and we couldn’t be any more in love with the series (says so while singing the Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated jingle).
Phil of the Future (2004)
Even Stevens (2000)
American Dragon: Jake Long (2005) – Animated
Secrets run amok in Disney shows, and the same goes for American Dragon’s Jake Long, but his secret is unlike Miley’s double life. His is rather related to fire-breathing creatures, and him being a descendant of them. Yet being a dragon isn’t the only thing he has to take control of. He has his thirteen-year-old self’s school life to deal with too.
Secretly training to become the first American Dragon, this skateboarding teenager enlists his grandfather’s help to keep his fellow mystical creatures residing in Manhattan safe, and has a long way to go to live up to his Chinese-American heritage.
The Proud Family (2001) – Animated
With Destiny’s Child theme song, one of the earliest 2000 shows still remains relevant as ever and even has newer reboots popping up on Disney+ now. The animated series follows fourteen-year-old Penny Proud’s coming-of-age life sequence, wherein she faces endless setbacks throughout the course of her junior high experience. But not to fear, since she has parents and grandma, who leave her and us with countless lessons about life with each episode. This Disney series stepped forward with proud and diverse representation on screen, while also normalising it, a feat that will always be looked back at with a smile on everyone’s face.
Sonny With a Chance (2009)
Sonny and Chad! Chad and Sonny! This show tracing the fictional growth of young actors/ artists in Hollywood made way for one of the most rooted enemies-to-lovers arc shared between Demi Lovato’s Sonny and Sterling Knight’s Chad. The fans of the show are still mad about the ending, because in all of our #Channy are still together.
Joining the cast of her favourite TV show ‘So Random’, Sonny Monroe gets a shot at living her dream in Los Angeles, but the rising tensions with the rival network show ‘Mackenzie Falls’ opens the door for many disharmonies that eventually lead elsewhere for the two shows’ leads.
Jonas (2009)
Although the Jonas Brothers we all know of today are married, and most importantly, back together as the band we loved and cherished (a big win for JB fans!), their journey to fame started out with this eponymously titled Disney sitcom that revolved around them trying to fit in their fellow high school crowd while balancing the pressures of stardom. Unlike Miley, their superstar identities were never a secret, so the act of turning in their homework was often supported by the soundtrack of fans screaming in the background.
